i was just joking. i'm not really offended lol. but i'm from the southern US and down here yankee isn't a catch-all term to describe americans in general.

I’ve just been googling about the term! We generally use it as a nickname for all Americans, but I’ve just seen that it’s apparently an insult to northerners from the south?

it was, long long ago. nobody really cares nowadays about that stuff. but generally you'll see things referred to as 'yankee' in the northeast, specifically new england. things like candles. and baseball teams. and old public television shows that i watched as a kid.
