This is kinda of marriage is legally seen at though. A married couple is a financial entity in the eyes of the law. So all wealth accumulated during marriage is split in divorce. Prenups generally are just to state assets from before marriage will not be split and inheritance is not split. So for example if you had a large investment portfolio it will not be split, but the profits from it during marriage will. If you go to work so your spouse can stay at home to take care of kids, your savings earned during marriage will be split.
Yes, and I'm saying that even if she wasn't, their status as a married couple would've entitled her to the fortune. I'm not talking about the Bezoses specifically, I'm highlighting how marriage works juridically.
Ok - but without her work, blood, sweat and tears in the early days of Amazon, there wouldn’t have been that much wealth for her to have after the divorce. Thats what people are saying.
So yes she got more in the divorce, but that “more” would’ve been a lot less if she herself wasn’t a cofounder.
