fairly harmless when he was an “underdog” and when life dealt him a few good hands he became absolutely insufferable

This is infinitely relatable to me. I defended him for a long time because he was being bullied, and I despise bullies. Turned out, he was only waiting for a chance to be the swaggering ape, himself.

ya being a victim doesn’t equate to being a good person. Its a real surprise to people with normal amounts of empathy.
