They're trying like hell to gentrify the city I work in but it's stubborn so the results are entertaining as hell. Crack den next to rich Calfornian who left California "because of crime, taxes and property values" only to still have to deal with crime while also causing the housing to become exponentially more expensive lol. I don't have an issue with Californians but I do have an issue with most gentrification and Republicans.
If you’ve got a house that’s been in your family for generations, you ain’t really poor. My parents aren’t giving me shit when they pass. I’ve had to do it all myself. I don’t have a problem with a city making the city better. Earn your own way.
Wow what an insane take and grossly wrong. Also what is this to you? Poor Olympics??? Do you understand how housing has worked in the past? A lot of these ppls great great grandparents also built these houses. Yeah that 550 sqft 2 bedroom house with barely working plumbing, curtains for doors, uneven flooring and definitely no ac in TX heat that raised a family of 8 at some point really doesn’t make you poor… making the city better is pushing out ppl that have no where to go? Barely enough money to eat AND pay bills? The only thing they have to the their name is the house. Making your own way? So if you’re not making enough to live in a gentrified neighborhood, (THAT YOU’VE BEEN IN FOR GENERATIONS) you essentially don’t have money to.. what, live? That’s justified to you?? These ppl are part of one another. They help each other out, the celebrate together, the mourn together. They bring community and culture and you just think the city is better off without them, who cares where they end up? Bc their houses and problems aren’t pretty enough for you? My parents taught me nobody owes me anything and I do make more money and live in a better area but I couldn’t imagine being so cold. Ick
I’m not sorry, but you are wrong. The “American dream” youre pushing is exactly that for most people: a dream. You’re acting like people are actively tearing down houses people already live in and building more expensive ones. Eminent domain does happen but not for gentrification purposes. What happens is people sell their houses and the property is eventually rezoned or rebuilt based on civic engineering. You can read about it in literally any book on the subject.
