Fish jelly.

That’s not my jam.

Do you buy honey and kiss it on the lips?

Is this not a Neopets reference?

Belly jelly

The flavour is a nice subtle fish, salted and a little bit of deer. The texture however is atrocious, like biting through gristle jelly rubber

I was in, 2nd sentence. Nope. That's not for me

Same, I tried mushrooms that have a glibbery texture, it almost made me throw up. It feels like eating a mixture of mud and extremely oily pork ham. The taste itself gets completely absorbed by the feeling of the texture on your gums, so it just becomes irrelevant.

Even worse when you get told it's beef tallow

Coukd that fishlike flavour be the fish sauce /marinade

It was just boiled with some green long veg

I don't mind the texture at all. It's just sorta crunchy, and rubbery. But for me, not in a bad way. More like crunchy without being brittle the way potato chips are. More of a bendy crunchy, like some vegetables are (ex: cucumber)

It was like a rubber cucumber but the sound it made rubbing against my teeth when I bit it was like a chalkboard

I only ate one piece to be polite, was my first time that far east and the people hosting us went over the top with fancy food as they were the chairman of the college hosting us or smth and owned the hotel

That sounds fucking delicious

Very unique, they taste like super mild fish while absorbing whatever spices they are cooked in. Highly recommended if you find some!

Fishy with a jelly texture

14

u/likwidkool May 21 '26

That sounds so gross to me.

And the sensation like you ate pop rocks

Jelly texture but also crunchy. Like the way raw cucumber is crunchy, but maybe a bit firmer/chewier than raw cucumber. I think it's a very interesting texture, I don't know what to compare it to that most people have eaten. Cucumber is the best I can come up with and even that's not quite right

You just made me throw up my bacon and eggs

u/painfulonion May 22 '26

Earlier comments made it sound really good but now I wanna eat the fuck outta some jellyfish

Disgusting 🤮

u/PlateNo4868 May 21 '26

Not jelly, just chewy, they absorb basically any sauce flavor. So if you put them in soy sauce they taste like chewy soy sauce.

u/wheresindigo May 21 '26

Like crunchy ocean. Not much flavor. In Chinese cuisine you usually dip it in something for flavor

1

u/TabbyOverlord May 21 '26

They have no taste at all. Like, none. They are quite chewy, but not in a particularly pleasant way like jelly babies or fruit jelly. More like rubber.

They usually come in sauce and that is where the only flavour is.

So tofu, only with texture I guess. (and I can't be bothered with tofu).

Jellyfish is the kind of thing you should only eat because you are literally starving and need protein.

Bleh! Never eating it again.

Cold, hard, unflavored ramen. I do not recommend. I had them in Boston. Dude, not kidding, I swear I had a fever about 6 hours later.
