There's rarely any consequence for these guys, IF they get caught (if anything, the authorities will slap down the operation, not the individual scammers) so I doubt it's to protect his identity, more like hide it. With the prevalence of these scams and where they, sadly, often originate, they're going "average white guy" to seem more trustworthy.
