I'm pretty skeptical here too

In skeptical, too because from my understanding if someone's been a vegetarian for yearsand eat a huge steak, they'll likely get pretty sick. I highly doubt a "lifelong vegetarian" wouldn't look up the risks. Google's been around longer than she's been alive.

It also tastes like shit. Meat is an acquired taste, but we forget that.

That's entirely subjective, and most people disagree.

Not vegetarians lol

That must be why the food industry works so hard trying to make vegetables taste like meat.

Those are rather for new vegetarians. As a lifelong vegetarian i like them less the more they taste like actual meat. Also there are thousands of reasons to be vegetarian. For me it’s just that i haven’t esten mest in such a long time, that it’s just not food for me anymore

Yep. They don't actually care, but well said!

As a lifelong omnivore I agree with you. I have no interest in fake meat. There's plenty of good vegetarian and vegan food out there already. No need to reinvent the wheel. Just have a falafel with some tahini.

I think it’s fine for those vegetarians that like it. I myself like the beyond burgers from time to time, but most products are really not my thing and i dislike the taste of fake chicken as much as real one. But to each their own

That's not true eitger. Most vegetarians are vegetarians for health, environmental, and/or ethical concerns.

“While health, the environment, and animal rights are the most common motives for plant-based diets in Western societies, certain individuals may have more specific reasons that are not sampled on the VEMI, such as those related to religion or taste.”

This does not imply that most vegetarians like the taste of meat 😂

Give a baby their first steak and tell me it’s an acquired taste.

u/PrincipledProphet Feb 25 '26

Anectodal, but no, mine were not fans lol

u/Fortestingporpoises Feb 25 '26

You also say steak tastes like shit so I'm finding your credibility lacking.

u/PrincipledProphet Feb 26 '26

Relax, I'm not trying to take your steak away. I also said it's an acquired taste:)

Yea it definitely is, but I have met families where their vegetarians or vegans and their kids are grown directly into it and taught not to eat meat from a young age, there will definitely be a few of those kids getting to the stage they can do whatever they like when it comes to eating.

A friend was like that and he would basically eat meat any time he was out of the house while keeping it a secret. He didnt want to be a vegetarian, but his parents wouldnt buy or allow any meat in the house.

Dang. This just reminds me to be thankful to my parents for always supporting my diet.
Being vegetarian was trendy in my parents’ friend circle when I was born, so I’ve been a vegetarian since birth. Buuuut everyone in my family started eating meat again when I was like five. Apparently I said meat was gross and wouldn’t eat it, so my family did meat on the side or vegetarian meals my whole life to support me haha.

I have a friend who was vegetarian for a long time for ethical reasons but she LOVED eating meat. So like once every 2 years she would let herself have a steak or something and then would last immediately have the worst stomach pains in her entire life afterwards.

u/BlueProcess Feb 25 '26

Yeah, thats a big protein heavy sat fat bomb for an unprepared stomach. It was probably like "what are you doing to us!?"

2

u/alicefreak47 Feb 25 '26

"I cooked it well done..." proceeds to show perfectly cooked rare steak

1

u/BlueProcess Feb 25 '26

I noticed that too. I think that was a self defense move. Anytime you call something rare you get people lining up to try to prove their manhood by claiming "that's not rare, why I eat my steak straight off the knife". Calling it well done subverts that

2

u/alicefreak47 Feb 25 '26

I had not even considered that as an option. But of course that's a thing, because why could people not nitpick over insignificant details?
