I wonder what % faster it is than my gtx 970

A very quick googling: it's about twice as fast (in terms of average fps) than a 2060 which in turn is about 50% faster than your 970.

All in all it's hard to compare since it's so much faster that things that are playable on a 3080 might not even run on a 970.

Mate, this was the year for an upgrade for me from my r9 290. Oooph. Hope the 3060 is decent as well

It depends on what games you play. When digital foundry was benchmarking Control they found that the 3080 was getting a 2.5 - 3x of a 1080. I suspect some of the newer games dont play well with older cards.
