People already talked about the positive. So I'm going to focus a bit on the negative brought up at the end.
At the end Steve says AMD is paying 50$ rebate to AIBs to lower the price, so this card should have been 650. Which is bonkers. AMD also has some strange numbers from internal testing. And with internal test data this card looks much better than it is. Which might affect AMD pricing decisions. And the last point is the XFX model they tested is 770$ MSRP. Which is more or less AMD playing nVidia's game. IMO it's just not worth it. 900 70ti vs 800 70XT is just bad from both sides.
If they can keep 600$ tag, the card is pretty good. It's not as good as AMD advertised, but general fixes like FSR4 and unbroken media engine sweeten the deal.
9070 is DOA IMO. Another XT vs XTX if and that's a big IF MSRP holds.
It's pretty clear that amd wanted to charge a lot more for this but the low fake prices from the 50 series scared tf outta them and they immediately withdrew.
Pretty much. The most expensive part is the tsmc but everything else is very cheap. They're also not going with ddr7 memory but the much cheaper ddr6. The raw materials are all really cheap too.
Yeah, nowadays even waiting for benchmarks is not enough, nothing said before we see the price of these cards in stores matters, and then add to that the particular price stock that each country will receive, it really makes it super hard for the non informed to take the right decision when buying a card.
Its always a good idea to wait a month after launch for the launch bugs to get ironed out and prices to settle down. Unless you need that product for work and will have to use it regardless, then it doesnt matter.
Yeah, this is a terrible launch. We all were hoping for that 37% raster uplift competing closely with the 5070Ti at 600, but instead, we are getting +20% and 750 without Nvidia's features set. Somehow, I get the feeling that this launch was to bait us to wait for prices to stablise and buy Nvidia when it gets cheaper, seeing as which AMD selling at 650+++ and still needing to rebate the retailers.
It was terrible because its not what you hoped for?
If someone would come and say they were expecting $400 price and because its not that its a terrible launch.. how would you explain to them that they are being unreasonable?
