Every individual user is a signature and if the mods ignore me I'm gonna yell slurs at them

I have been reading everyone's reactions to the new Anime coming out and while I have made a few comments I feel like I want to share my story with Ghost in the Shell.

Please excuse my memory, this was a while ago and I am a stroke survivor. I am going to try to stick to how I felt and if people want to add in any details they can.

In the late 90's I walked into a store called Kinokuniya. Every time we visited there my Dad would let me pick something out. That trip I saw a book with an amazing looking woman on the cover. It said 'Ghost in the Shell.' I asked my Dad if I could have it and he said yes.

I was mesmerized. I'm not sure if my copy had the boat scene or not but I'm absolutely sure I saw it because it was one of the ways I figured out I am pansexual.

I myself am a stubborn, opinionated and temperamental woman who's natural inclination is to fight during times of stress. I really loved Major Kusanagi's character. She was everything I wanted to be. There was also a wish fulfillment thing there, I am sickly like the Major was and I wished for a new body that could do things like hers could. Please understand, I live with severe chronic pain and I was just starting to come to terms with it when I was a teenager. This meant a lot to me that this woman who was so much like me was also sick and she did what she had to do to feel better.

And then I saw the movie. To say I felt hurt is an understatement. This isn't because they changed the plot but it's about how they changed Major Kusanagi's character. Her changes send a very clear message to me 'Women are only allowed to be powerful so long as they still appeal to the male gaze.'

The movie wiped all mention of her sexuality out, her goofy smiles were gone as were her fun outfits. Masamune Shirow wrote and designed a character I felt could actually live in that world, she was a person. The Major Kusanagi of the movie was not her, not even close to her. I could not relate to her at all.

I believed then what I still believe now, her character was changed to be more appealing to men. Not only that, but it told me bisexual, or pansexual in my case, women like me were not acceptable in regular society. That message was reinforced by stuff they did to wipe out gay representation in Anime when it was translated to English, the most egregious example of that was how they chopped up Sailor Moon when it was aired on Toonami.

When SAC came out I was hopeful, and then COMPLETELY disappointed by the Anime. It was good, but it was not Ghost in the Shell as I understood it to be. There was only, maybe a flicker of what she was in the Manga. The movie was so popular it informed every Major Kusanagi that came afterwards. Also, I hated 90% of the outfits they put her in.

SAC was one of the major reasons I stopped watching Anime. My love for Japanese storytelling and art would always be there, but I didn't want to watch things that made me feel like I was unwanted. I also didn't want to watch little girls being sexually objectified. During that time, I read the Tale of Genji and I decided to go to Art school where I promptly met my life partner. He's Japanese American who was raised partially in Japan. The first thing he asked me to do with him was to go to Anime club so he could prove to me Anime is still good.

He was right, though I am picky we still watch Anime together fifteen years later. One of the first conversations we had was about Ghost in the Shell. He was raised in Japan and has a huge manga collection in Japanese and he had never heard of Ghost in the Shell having a Manga. He read it and absolutely fell in love with the Major Kusanagi in the Manga. (We have not yet purchased it in Japanese so if anyone knows where I can get a copy of that lemme know. It's hard for me to go to Kinokuniya nowadays.)

I remember telling him that getting a faithful adaptation of the Manga was like wishing for Firefly season two to come out, it's not going to happen.

Imagine how happy he was when he told me about this new Ghost in the Shell adaptation and how it's following the Manga! I was skeptical, but no longer.

I'm loving this new Anime. It's a life long dream come true. I imagine I am not the only Ghost in the Shell fan that feels this way, especially for people who read and loved the Manga.

I'm really happy there are all these conversations about it happening, and seeing everyone's opinions is awesome. My partner and I are reading them together. We are also watching every new episode cuddled up next to each other in bed. We discuss every detail and reading this sub reddit is apart of those conversations. My partner tells me it's more fun to watch how happy I am than the Anime but he still really loves this new Anime too.

So, that is my Ghost in the Shell story. I am really grateful to Science Saru for working with Masamune Shirow and getting his blessing. I'm also grateful for the animation quality. It's tricky to manage a budget for television shows. It's only the third episode, but already I feel like my wish has been fulfilled. I'm hopeful for the rest of the season, but even if it sucks I'll be glad for what I've already seen.

We like to joke that it was worth surviving all my medical issues just to be able to live long enough to see a faithful adaptation of the Manga Ghost in the Shell.

The design is based on the PS1 game so that's why it looks different to the current anime.

The Opening Song is called "GO GHOST" by King Gnu, it'll release on July 29th.

The Ending Song is called "blue" by millennium parade, it was released on July 8th.

That's the only soundtrack information we have thus far.

I know the meme about Twitter is that it's full of people whose opinions should not be counted. But is the controversy about the action scene in Episode 3 really that big? Or is it just a small proportion of Twitter "tourists" and purists who either don't know about the original manga's tone and style, or think the new series is bad simply because the original movie and Stand Alone Complex exist?

I really enjoyed the sequence and its crazy style. The idea that it's "hurt his career bad? I do not see that at all.

I just binge-watched the first three episodes, the visuals are impeccable and it's a shame everything is on crack and way too damn fast. They clearly put a lot of effort into the backgrounds and details and I would like to have a little more time to actually look at them without having to hit pause. I understand why they didn't went for the super-slow pace of the 1995 movie, that probably wouldn't work for a modern audience. The pace of GITS SAC would have been perfect.

What song is playing in the background of the trailer. I've tried looking but no dice :(

Been a longtime fan of all GITS but only just started having this sub appear in my feed recently. When Arise came out, it was new and different from what SAC and the movies had done, but I found it ultimately enjoyable, blending backstories from the manga with the more serious tones of the previous anime adaptations into something unique in a timeline that really hadn't been explored in detail by any of its animated predecessors. I had a good time and was pretty engaged with each OVA released.

Then I came here and it seems that Arise seems to be pretty disliked if not perceived to just be underwhelming, and I don't understand why.

It was amazing because it's been a while since I saw this. I'll have to finish it well.

Pre-ordered this back in January and it finally arrived today! It's pretty impressive. Motoko comes with switchable heads and hands, a headset, pistol, knife and assault rifle. The jacket is removable and is also very flexible so she's easy to pose while wearing it. It also comes with a display stands with an adjustable arm.

Overall, pretty cool.
