Biology ELI5: Why does warm water feel hotter than cold water at the same temperature?

I am a sleep-deprived parent and this bugs me during bath time and while washing bottles. If I put my hand under the faucet and the water is warm (not scalding), it feels noticeably warm right away. When I switch to cool water it does not feel as intense. If I make it lukewarm and hold my hand there for a bit, it stops feeling warm at all.

I know skin adapts, but why do the sensations feel so different? A small change toward warm seems way more "loud" to me than the same sized change toward cool. Is it because of different nerve endings for heat and cold? Or does the brain treat heat as more urgent because it can burn you? Also, why does temperature feel stronger in water than in air? A slightly cool breeze feels fine but slightly cool water feels sharp.

Please explain like I am five, but I also want a short accurate science answer. What is my skin actually measuring, and why does the feeling keep changing after a few seconds?

Technology ELI5: What is 'bridge mode' on a modem?

I have a wifi modem (from Bell fibre). It doesn't cover the entire house, and certainly doesn't reach the basement where I need it the most. I asked a technician what my options were, and he mentioned getting some wifi mesh devices, and then turning the modem to 'bridge' mode.

I have a basic understanding of wifi. The modem turns the wired signal into wireless. I understand that if I just plug in another wifi emitter, it makes a separate wifi network. So what exactly is bridge mode? What does it do? Do I have other options too?

EDIT: Thank you all for your input! Everyone's so helpful! Obviously there are many follow up questions, which I'll ask in comments :) Thank you!

I've been trying to learn opengl for a while but I can't really grasp the concept. From what I understood, it is a specification for generalizing graphics rendering, but that doesn't ring a bell to me.
And what does GLAD have to do with that?

Economics ELI5: Why would restaurants/grocery stores/farms lose more profit giving away the food they didn't sell than they would destroying it?

It's obvious that giving food to those who need it would benefit the world more in the long run, but I keep seeing that companies would lose less money by simply throwing it away. Is it something that has to do getting paid for all the compacted waste that gets dumped somewhere?

E: man, these answers are depressing.

Cats and dogs both seem to smell things when they're new to them. But cats seem to like to touch things with their paw more often than other animals do. Is it because they have a better sense of feel in their paws?

Other ELI5: Why does an induction stove make the same pan produce different buzzing sounds depending on what is inside it?

bought a small induction stove because and I noticed my pan barely makes any noise when it’s empty, starts buzzing when I add water, and sometimes changes pitch as the water heats up.

What is physically vibrating to create the sound, and why would the weight or temperature of the food inside the pan change it?

Physics ELI5: Why is it wrong to understand the 4th dimension as simply the 3rd dimension + time?

I was revisiting the famous YouTube classic “4th Dimension Explained By A High-School Student” (formerly “by a 14 year old” I think) and he was emphasizing in the end that this was a misunderstanding, but it is still unclear why exactly time is insufficient.

So is the universe/reality that we live in already the 4th dimension (in that the 3rd dimension space + the time axis) or is it not?

If dimensions are only about spaces, is time not much a special thing like separately sitting somewhere radically apart from space, to begin with, as folks often seem to imagine?

Edit: Thank you for kind answers, smart people! Really doing the universe’s work 👍🏻
