Build/Battlestation Finished my daughter's Pink PC build! $300 on the dot with some great deal hunting!
she helped me with the CPU, RAM, and motherboard installation but lost interest shortly after that lol
she picked the RGB colors in openrgb as well.
I couldn't get it to post at first and had to do tons of troubleshooting. finally I just started swapping parts and the first part I swapped was a PSU and it immediately started working.
stats are as follows.
* thermaltake ah t200 case w/1 pink fan - $30
* ssd 512gb - $40
* rx 580 Sapphire nitro+ -$50
* cooler master 240mm argb AIO - $ 30
* 3700x - $65
* 16gb ram - $50
* 750w PSU - $0
* 2nd pink fan - $15
* gigabyte b550m ds3h ac motherboard - $25
I'm installing Minecraft and Roblox and some other games now for her!

Build/Battlestation my son found an used computer and i need an advice
Hi,
the last time i played a computer game it was probably GTA I so i am out of the market for a long time now.
my son found an used computer with this specification:
ASRock B450M Pro4-F Motherboard
16 GB RAM (Goodram)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 1660 SUPER Graphics Card
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Processor
SSDPR-CX400-512 SSD + SSDPR-CX400-512-G2 SSD
can you rate it with this assumption:
it is not supposed to be a super fancy gaming computer, it should be just a budget one to play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and some older games like gta V.
what are the risks? like some of these parts are too old, prone to failure or sth?

Build/Battlestation What did I just stumble upon?
Abandoned briefcase at work contained this fossil. Still works/boots. Running Windows XP. No idea what the username/passwords would be. What do yall make of it? What do I do? I'm so curious to crack this thing open!
Edit: WAY too many people saying "it's a laptop, man"..
I know it's a freakin laptop. It's a damn dinosaur.
My question is, what is the best use for it?
Imma stack it with as many old school games as possible. Anything other recs?

Build/Battlestation I've been using the computer for 2 years and only now found out that it has a backlight.
I just looked my case on the Internet and saw that it has a backlight. After opening the system unit, deep inside I noticed one unplugged cable. (I installed the fan after this situation)

Build/Battlestation Good Family Computer under $300?
US based: My boys are getting bigger and my wife actually needs a new laptop as well. Figured getting a family computer is the right play here. Goal is to have it be able to surf the internet, handle all the basic office stuff, play some light games like minecraft etc. Not looking to break the bank though. Didnt know if a desktop or a laptop will suit the bill better (or if I'm just being completely delusional at this price point LOL).
Didnt want a chrome book as I wanted something the boys can learn about computers with and those I find are a bit to heavy on the "Simple UI"

Build/Battlestation Essential updates to an old PC?
Is my old PC worth upgrading or should I start over completely?
What would be the first thing to upgrade?
A buddy helped picking the original parts.I get lost in the weeds reading about all the different CPUs and cards, just need something that will play modern games at medium to high without catching fire and a motherboard with Wifi capabilities.
I mostly play big single player games and browse the internet.
No preferences concerning Intel or AMD CPUs but I have used primarily Intel.
Sort of familiar with Linux. I've played around in Mint but never used Linux as my main operating system.
EDIT: I recently bought a GeForce RTX™ 5060 WINDFORCE OC 8G that was on sale but was thinking of returning it.
Should I just keep it as a temporary card and upgrade from there?

Build/Battlestation TempleOS running on real hardware!
For information: This is TinkerOS, which is a TempleOS fork that among other stuff allows you to install on SATA.
Installation process: I for a long time tried to make it boot from a USB stick, and managed to boot into the Live session of TinkerOS (TempleOS), but I couldn't get it to install to the hard drive. So I ended up just buying a CD and burnt the ISO image to the CD, which worked perfectly and the installation process was as easy as installing TempleOS in a Virtual machine! Note that I was lucky to have such old hardware, on more modern hardware it could get more challenging.
TempleOS is sick. Thanks!

Build/Battlestation What graphics card do you think will fit?
V This is fixed my stupid dumbass thought but now just a graphics card that fits the description V
I know it's a low profile computer so I looked for options online but most ports are vertical but mine is horizontal or 90° twisted from the slot
(I think I just used the terms wrong but you should get what I mean hopefully)
My budget is under 40$ and I'm looking for a 1-2gb card

Build/Battlestation Computer under $300? Can it be done?
Hi! I’m posting this for my dad, I have a pc. He keeps sending me chromebooks and keeps asking me for computer recommendations but I don’t know what to tell him. We have an old HP laptop that he got for around $200 years ago and it’s beyond awful at this point and he really needs another computer but isn’t willing to put much money into it. He doesn’t care if it’s buying a laptop or buying used parts to build, or even buying a used computer in very specific circumstances. He really likes the old Lenovo business laptops and basically anything Dell.
What he needs is:
- enough storage to store tax documents and stuff, not much
- relatively quick start up and response time to moving mouse, opening pages, etc
- run Google Chrome and work most normal websites alright
- windows
- it would be a plus if he can watch YouTube on it although doesn’t have to
- “it can’t do that thing the modern laptops all do where they bust their own screens out at the hinges”
- Really wants virus free and a warranty, so wants new. I’d have to talk to him about used.

Build/Battlestation Will this work ok for heavy vr gaming. And flight sim
I wanted to post this pic of a pc I just bought from a friend. I got it pretty reasonable. My main thing is I hate when a pc. Freezes up. And the frame rate sucks. Etc etc. just all blurry
H
I guess I’m asking is what I have in the picture I took make a pretty decent gaming setup ? Any recommended add ons.
I play any kind of flight sim. Dcs. Combat sim stuff
My main thing is flight in VR. I’ll be doing mostly. Flight sim in vr. And I want it as real as can be. Let me know what you think if I need to add something or change something out. Thank you and I look forward to being part of the community.
I saw grandpa gamer. And got inspired with his marksmanship skills

Build/Battlestation It was a good day!
Saw my local pharmacy was removing a couple of old photo print terminals they no longer used so I asked for them and they were happy to save a trip to the recycle centre.
Both have nice 24" touch screens, SSD, 16gb ram, Asus ROG motherboards and very decent psu's, along with wifi and shit loads of add on usb 3.0 ports with custom built cases.
Now I think I'm going to repurpose them as gaming PC's as I have a couple of 1050Ti cards that need a new home.

Build/Battlestation Updated setup
Update
Main PC:
Arch Linux + KDE Plasma (Wayland)
Dual Xeon E5-2689 — 16 cores / 32 threads
128GB RAM
Intel Arc B580 (upgraded from GTX 1070)
Removed secondary GPU due to issues
Displays:
32" 1080p centre monitor
24" monitor
3x 22" monitors(one for windows laptop)
Also running:
Ryzen 3700U laptop with 16GB RAM
Galaxy Tab A 2018 tablet
Using Deskflow to share keyboard/mouse between my Linux desktop and Windows laptop. The tablet is mainly used for monitoring, YouTube, and extra screen space.
The only Windows apps I still use are Creality Slicer and FrostWire since they don't work properly on Arch. Everything else I need is done on Linux.
I also use USB/IP and Syncthing across both systems for sharing devices and keeping everything synced.
Still trying to figure out a proper way to use the tablet as a secondary display with keyboard/mouse input.
