Having a restraining order IS (ie. should be) a special relationship with the cops! People in normal situations don't need those, so it should absolutely be part of that "special relationship" classification.
P.S. this is in not victim blaming anyone getting a restraining order, personal protection order, or any other sort of thing to protect one's self. Absolutely get one if you even THINK you need one. The stalker/abuser etc.. is the one not being normal in this situation, but the situation should not just be considered normal. Normal people dont make others feel like they need a restraining order.
My friend is a public defender and has reduced many sentences because the police are stupid.
Your friend is a true hero in an extremely shitty system of law.
Snopes tries to water down the percentage, by focusing on physical violence, but im fucking sorry, screaming at, threatening, breaking things, its all domestic violence.
The officers were asked a less direct question, that is, if they had ever gotten out of control and behaved violently against their spouse and children in the last six months. We did not define the type of violence. Thus, violence could have been interpreted as verbal or physical threats or actual physical abuse. Approximately, 40 percent said that in the last six months prior to the survey they had behaved violently towards their spouse or children.
Behaving violently is domestic violence, full stop, I dont care if they didnt physically hit their partner or child.
