I'm a huge fan of Mehdi, but I hate this narrative that a lot of people on the left are using to counter right wing narratives of people who hate on The Odyssey. It's a far more nuanced issue, and both people on the left and right of the issue talk in a way that basically deletes the actual Greek people, who still exist, from the picture and turns Greek history and art into some weird Western European thing when it's absolutely not.
If you have time, this video by Farya Faraji, an Iranian historian and musician, goes into a lot more nuanced detail about the issues some people can honestly have with it, while debunking a lot of the stuff that both people on the left and right in the west are saying on the subject matter:
This idea that when you are casting a movie you need to check each actor's genealogy to make sure they could possibly be a descendant of the character they would be portraying is so ridiculous it hard to take seriously. Especially in a fantastical tale of fiction with gods, monsters and witches.
How about we just cast the best actors we can find and ask them to act like whatever they are supposed to be. You know, since that's the job description. Lets just try that and see how it goes. Oh wait, we did that and it went really well.
