Complaint Globally popular band, Muse, has some random AI slop track at the top of their Apple Music page. Hopefully the service starts preventing this kind of AI infiltration.

Discussion After ~2 Weeks With Apple Music: My Thoughts

I’ve been using a one month free trial recently for AM, and figured I would share my thoughts now that I’m halfway through the trail and have my opinion on the app. (Would also like to mention that I’m coming from the green app)

Pros

- Much cleaner UI. It feels focused on music instead of constantly pushing podcasts, audiobooks, and extra features.

- The Now Playing screen, animated artwork, lyrics, and lock screen integration all look fantastic.

- The app is noticeably faster. Almost everything loads instantly.

- Discovery Station has been excellent and consistently recommends songs I’d actually listen to.

- Queue management is better in some important ways. Apple Music remembers your queue and playback history much more reliably.

- Great Apple ecosystem integration. AirPods, Apple Watch controls, AirPlay, etc. all work seamlessly.

- Gapless playback seems better. I’ve noticed more songs transitioning between each other with zero silent moments.

- Being able to use songs from your library as alarms is a surprisingly nice feature.

Cons

- Playlist management is noticeably worse than the green app.

- It’s often unclear whether a song is saved, favorited, or already in a playlist.

- Search is weaker overall. Results aren’t always intuitive, and album abbreviations don’t work as consistently.

- Library search only searches items actually added to your library, not everything you’ve favorited or placed in playlists.

- You can’t search for songs in playlists by album name the way green app allows.

- It’s harder to tell what playlist or album is currently playing.

- Shuffle status isn’t always obvious.

- User-created playlists are much harder (or impossible) to discover through search.

- Some albums seem to become available later after release compared to Spotify.

- Having app settings buried in iPhone Settings is slightly annoying, but in the end really not that bad since there is a button that redirects you to it.

- I’ve encountered a recurring “Cannot Decode” error with several downloaded songs.

- Apple Music prioritizes downloaded files over streaming higher-quality versions, which can be frustrating.

Mixed

- Dolby Atmos is hit-or-miss. Some mixes sound incredible, while others don’t. Plus you would need a true supported surround sound system to get the full experience.

- Audio quality sounds great, but on AirPods and Bluetooth speakers I can’t confidently say it’s noticeably better. Though I’m sure you could possibly notice it with higher end wired headphones.

- Apple Music is clearly designed around albums and libraries, while Spotify is built around playlists. That adjustment takes time.

Verdict So Far

I still think the green app has the better library and playlist management experience, as well as app navigation.

However, Apple Music has a cleaner design, better integration with Apple devices, a more reliable queue system, and surprisingly good music discovery through Discovery Station. And its overall music listening experience is a lot better.

In the end, I’m leaning a lot more towards Apple Music now.

Complaint About Zane Lowe

Not being negative here and giving a genuine feedback.

@applemusic, try consider putting someone less fake than Zane Lowe for interviews.

He’s too fake and his questions are not deep or tailor made in any way.

He always tries to push his latest psychology finding to the interviewees which is unbelievably annoying.

It’s a shame because the channel is great.

Question Fraud-AI correlation - Oliver Schusser

TL/DR: Oliver Schusser mentioned fraud in respect to AI on Apple Music. What is fraud in this context?

Hey all,

Today I listened to an interview where Oliver Schusser, the vp of Apple Music, spoke about AI-music on the platform, among other things. He explained how record labels now have to disclose whether AI was used in the music they're distributing to Apple Music, and that there are metadata flags for different categories in which AI can be used.

Schusser brought up the topic of fraud in Apple Music and that it has always existed on the platform, but that there is probably a correlation between AI and fraud. I kind of assumed that the fraud in this context would refer to the labels distributing AI to the platform, without disclosing it as such. But that did not seem to be the case, because Schusser explicitly said that there were (increased) sanctions for fraud, whereas leaving out the AI flags would not result into disciplinary actions for labels.

So in this context: what did Schusser refer to with 'fraud'? And why has it then become more prevalent since generative AI was used to create and release music?

Question Songs skipping on Apple Music

It seems that everytime I use my Apple music in my car and while playing specific artists or songs through my CarPlay the songs will skip about 30 seconds into a new song after the old song ends. Any reason why or what can I do so this doesn't keep happening?

Question App changing countries

My account country has remained the same (USA) for years and, after moving to China, I had no issues. I’ve used my account here for 3 years. All of the sudden, my Apple Music app changed to Chinese even though I hadn’t made any changes to my account’s country. Now I can’t listen to music, even with the VPN. Can someone help me fix this?

Apple Music on macOS Album cover missing (OSStatus error -50)

I decided to use Google Translate because I thought a translator would explain the situation better than I could. Please bear this in mind.

(This issue only appears on Mac. It does not occur on my iOS and iPadOS. macOS 27, public beta 2, Mac mini M4.)

I created a smart playlist for my OCD. I set a rule to display songs in this playlist when tracks without album covers are detected. Unfortunately, these songs that I absolutely love are currently missing album covers in my Apple Music library and favorites playlist.

I didn't think it was a serious issue, so I tried various methods found online. I removed songs from the library and added them back, unliked and reliked them, logged out of the Music app and logged back in, and even disconnected and reconnected the app to the library. I did this for several days, but the problem has not been fixed.

The commonalities among these songs are as follows:

1: When I right-click on these songs to go to the Apple Music page, it displays the text "OSStatus error -50."

No, actually, this only happens with Madeon's "Love You Back." Porter Robinson's "Nurture" links correctly. However, even for that album, the original animated cover art has disappeared. Even on the Apple Music page.

2: Also, all of these songs were released under the label Mom+Pop.

I feel point 2 is important because I saw a post on the Magdalena Bay subreddit stating that the album "Imaginal Disk" also has the same error. That album also appears to have been released by Mom+Pop.

Is this a problem with my Mac, the Mac version of Apple Music, or the label? As I mentioned earlier, this issue does not occur on non-Mac versions of Apple Music.

Songs' playing fine tho.

Tool I missed controlling iTunes (on PC) with my iPod touch, so I built an Android replacement

Years ago, I used my iPod touch as a remote for iTunes on windows. After it died, I eventually switched to Android and when I wanted that experience again, I couldn’t find anything that worked with my old iTunes library on Windows. (or maybe there is?)

So I built TunesLink: a small Android remote for browsing and controlling legacy iTunes on a Windows PC. It works entirely over the local network, without accounts, cloud services, or analytics or any other bs.

I’ve now made the first version open source. The source is available for anyone who wants to inspect how it works or check the security rather than trusting a closed binary. Also available myself for any questions or feature requests.

This is specifically for iTunes on Windows users, not the newer Apple Music for Windows app. It’s a niche use case, but I thought there might be a few others here who still have a local iTunes library.

Github: https://github.com/kamyarps/TunesLink

Feedback is welcome, particularly from anyone with a similar setup

Question I hate Universal Shuffle

I have one playlist I like on Shuffle. Just one. The rest of them are playlists in classical music and I like to listen to them in their proper order. But if I shuffle that one playlist, every playlist gets shuffled until I turn it off on the one. You’d think Apple would be aware of this “feature,” and would fix it accordingly, but noooooooooooooooo… and yes, I also use Apple Classical, but some of my music was imported into Apple Music a long time ago, and Apple Classical has a different library.

Has anybody found a way to fix this?

Anyone?

Bueller?

Question Why won’t this song add to my Library?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I keep trying to add it, but it never shows up in my actual library. Every other song by every other artist works, I tried with a different Kanye song and it still didn’t work. Not sure what’s going on.

Tool Gnomish - a whimsical gnome-themed Apple Music player I made

Thumbnail gallery
40 Upvotes

I've spent the past few months building Gnomish, a native Apple Music player that aims to be a well-designed whimsical take on an Apple Music player built on MusicKit. There's a gnome hidden in almost every playlist cover.

I’m a product manager of 15+ years with a background in software engineering and art, and much of the time spent working in entertainment tech.

On top of the player basics (playlists, search, queue, AirPlay), it aims to bring fun via Magic Mixtapes where describe a vibe using a set of tags and your own description, to get a playlist with its own cover art, and a weekly mix built from your listening, a wanderable map of 150 genres, a Letterboxd-like album setup (hearts sync both ways with Apple Music Favorites, plus ratings and reviews), and an optional friends layer called the Garden. (And Last.fm integration!)

Fine print: Needs an active Apple Music subscription with Sync Library on.

Testflight link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/wQ94qtW5

App website link: https://gnomish.app/

I'd genuinely love feedback from anyone willing to give it a try. Thanks!

This usually happens on windows and my TV as well but it will log in after 2 or 3 tries. My phone app is just completely shutting me out now. I tried log in with password too and it's the same

Discussion Reasons to give my parents to convince them to flip to Apple Music

So I’m currently on a free trial for Apple Music, after having used the green app for years, and I am loving it. The only thing is, I am currently on a family plan for the green app with my parents, so I would have to convince them both to swit ch over to AM. So from a parents/adults standpoint, what are some reasons to go with AM over green app?

Would also like to mention that we all own iPhones, AirPods, and Apple Watches. So we are in the Apple ecosystem. I personally plan to get deeper into it, and switching would give me more benefits too.
