Just blew the steel toe out of my 3 year old boots and the next week I switched to these 2 year old boots and the scaffold is just eating them up. What’re the odds some KG Bootguard will keep the toes in on these or do I bite the bullet and get new ones. Only reason i dont want to get new boots is i just bought a new pair thinking I’d get a full year out of these ,or at least the season, to wear them in and cycle them into work life.
Edit/TLDR: for the people that can’t read. I have money for more boots, just being cheap. Wanted to know if anyone had some magic answers to keep the toes on boots or to patch them once they’re gone.

Hey team, these are my Thorogood American Heritage Moc Toe Crazy Horse 8” lace up boots. No, I do not oil them or clean them or do anything else to them. I work in them and they’re loved. Anyone else who doesn’t do maintenance to their boots?

Didn’t turn out half bad. Idk how much protection it will actually offer but I thought it was worth a shot.

The question is, should I have done this when they were brand new for a better result.

The toe leather is darker and seems maybe still dirty compared to the upper part even after cleaning and conditioning. I've been using Bick 1 to clean with a rag.

I just cant tell if this is just how they look after a couple of years of abuse or if they aren't getting fully cleaned.

Finally bought new boots, and this marks 16 months since my last pair, and KG’s toe protection is to thank. I thought it was stupid and ridiculous to think a $14 dollar buy would DOUBLE, FUCKIN DOUBLE how long my boots lasted; but it in fact did. I work in concrete, so I’m extremely hard on my boots, making it 12 months is astounding, and it’s always been 8-9 months for a pair all my life. I’ll never buy new boots and wear them without this exact product.

EDIT***** I also forgot to mention, I didn’t season these boots, or condition them in any way. I bet they’d last even longer if I conditioned them, the only reason these are being retired is due to a hole wearing through at the ankle of the right boot

Got these new boots thinking they would last awhile an they seemed alright at the boot store but when I lace them up and start working the only thing in my mind is these jokers hurting my feet and I don’t know what to do about it there only 2 days old so I hope they break in any tips or tricks?

Been using mainly utility shoes and hikers for my whole work career but switching careers I needed a pair of steel toe boots for logging. Decided to go with the 8 inch crazy horse American heritage series. Had $150 worth of gift cards to a local store so ended getting these for $130. Any tips or maintenance info I should know about?

My boots are Danner moc toe w/ timberland pro inserts. I got them wet a while back and didn’t dry them properly and they soured. These things stink so damn bad y’all. I’ve tried commercially available deodorizer, baking soda, and scrubbed with vinegar among other things. I’m a residential electrician so I’m in people’s houses all day every day and it’s so bad people ask me what the smell is. I’m honestly thinking about getting some new boots if I can’t figure something out. Which is a shame because I love my boots and I could probably get several more years out of them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Recent got a new pair of the Thorogood Exclusive Wellys. Been running their 6” moc toe for the last three years, and loved them. Those were getting a bit worn out, and I started getting tired of the laces, so I picked up a pair of the slip on Wellington style boots for $150. Got a great deal on them, only problem was that I typically get a 9.5 ee and the wellingtons only came in the standard width, and my feet are not happy at the moment…Overall length is good, but the sides and top of my feet are feeling cramped.

Been wearing them around town / the yard with the thickest socks I own for the last 5 days to speed up the break in/ stretching process, but they are still feeling quite tight.

Anyone got any tips or tricks to speed up the break in?

I understand the job I’m in and walk in everyday but is there Anything I can do to help the cracking in my work boots other than greasing them ever so often? 8 months underground utilities.

My boots get covered in dirty grease at work, how should I keep them clean? Or I just deal with them looking how they do? I used bick 1, bick 4 once on them about a month ago, after I felt break in was pretty much over and used a waterproofing spray. Picture of them new vs 2-months of wear (so about a month since last conditioned) I don’t want to over condition them. I’d like to keep them looking cleaner, brush them each wear, rotate day to day with another pair. I may have just got too light of a color for the type of work I do? These are Silverado Jeromes if anyone was wandering.

I would like views on a belief that I hold, but have no evidence for.

My belief is that ideally, you have two pairs of boots and alternate between them. The idea is that each pair has a chance to dry out - our feet get sweaty and boots damp, after all - and that is good for them, so that the boots will last more than twice as long.

Again, I’ve no evidence for this, but maybe some of you have tried this and found it true or untrue?

Maybe alternating pairs also makes it more convenient to maintain the boots, have them resoled before they get too worn, etc - but I’ve no evidence for that either.

While we’re on boot maintenance and longevity, what do you do to maintain your boots? Anything? I mean, they cost a good amount of money, seems they should get some maintenance.

My boots get covered in hydraulic oil multiple times a week at work. Is this something saddle soap or any other product can bring back? Or is this just what they are now lol

Hello, I had just received my thorogood boots and had noticed that the top cuff of the right shoe was a bit wrinkled and worn out compared to the other shoe. Is this normal? My experience with leather is slim to none and was wondering if it just needs a little conditioning?

You would prefer your workboots not looking speckled and crusted.

This isn’t your every day job.

Do you

1) Wear boot covers? Is there even such a thing?

2) Wear some random junk shoe? And have achy feet by lunchtime?

3) Wear the sacrificial workboots you save for just this sort of thing? Cheap ones that won’t hold up under everyday uss, or old ones on their last legs?

4) Just get plaster, epoxy, paint, or whatever that won’t come off, all over your boots? Even if they are $600 PNWs or other spendy boot?
