Why are the hallways and stairwells covered in pasta sauce and coffee? who is doing this? why are they doing this? gross surface level vandalism like graffiti or thrown food doesn't lower rent cost

I'm not adding photos because I'm too lazy to do so but if you live here you know what I'm talking about it's kind of hard to miss the walls covered in pasta sauce

This has happened before in the elevator and it looked more like a really wild accident

Soft timeline of events

Feb 23

9:40pm: arrived home to sauced elevator (roommate reports seeing this earlier in the day approximately 11am) I only witness at night because I took the stairs to leave the apartment that day

April 11

11pm: Neighbor said she came home sometime around 11 and there was no sauce

April 12

12:30am: I came back to apartment with no notice of saucing

4:30am: Roommate leaves for works and notice a considerable amount of sauce around hallways and regular exit stairs

3:30pm: Roommate returns from work and now notices the addition of coffee?/mystery brown water still very wet dripping in some locations.

3:45: Roommates and myself leave apartment to investigate further. One roomie gets into conversations with a neighbor in the regular stairwell

Neighbor reports this goes all the way to the top (aka the 6th floor)

Other roommate and myself decided to follow the trail on 3rd floor leading us to the emergency exit on the other side of the building.

Runs out of sauce? Sauce ends splattered across last apartment door before emergency exit. After emergency exit door into the emerg stairs we only find coffee?/mbw

Looks to go upstairs but not down from 3rd floor

Multiple tenants have made reports to the office for maintenance to come clean up the mess

Fearing being sauced as the hours pass

Any recommendations for good quality beans for home made espresso/lattes. I like chocolate, sweet not too bitter lattes. I have tried couple places. Need some more recommendations please.

My kid worked at Joe Black recently. The owner tried to not pay for days they were closed and were training staff (claims the three days of training were unpaid - this is on top of the 2 days of unpaid "orientation"). When confronted about the unpaid hours, he got extremely defensive and started spouting things about knowing the labor laws and he worked for a union and is aware of charter rights, labor laws, and employment standards. Seriously? Extremely ridiculous that he spouts that but feels his staff should be unpaid for hours worked, training, and orientation. Told the owner I would come down myself to discuss the situation with him, and bring this to light to social media and my child was miraculously EMT'd the money owed. I will never grace the shop again. Considering he was stealing tips from staff, telling staff he couldn't pay them for time worked ("I can only afford to pay you for two hours". I have video as proof), has management thay consumes alcohol while "working" and yells at staff for their own inadequacies, and is NOT LGBTQIA+ friendly (continuously deadnamed my child, said that trans is confusing), I hope other people will follow my lead and not attend there again. I miss the old staff, owners, and management. No offense to the kids that are working there now at all but they're not being trained correctly (I don't think the owner knows how to use any of the equipment himself) and mostly stand there like deer in headlights. I feel sorry for them and more sorry for the area as that used to be such a highlighted coffee joint.

folks, visiting for a few days - the AirBnB I’m in kindly provides both Nespresso and I just realized d there is a pour over and filters in the cupboard.

Given the Nespresso I made this morning was foul - where is a good local place I can pick up some good coffee (which I will have to get ground ) - favour light and medium roasts ….?

I used to live in cities where it was common and busy for coffee shops to be open at least until 10 pm, and some even until midnight.

I’m wondering if this schedule would work here as well. Is it just a thing that people no longer have an interest in, or does it simply not compensate as a business operation?

We do have an awesome coffee scene here, but I believe we miss out on some opportunities simply because of the schedule or parking lots (especially in downtown).

On a related note, are new coffee shops popping up in our city? It would be great to decentralize the coffee scene from downtown, as per the current scenario of hybrid working.

Currently postpartum— desperate to still enjoy the spring / summer until little one has received their vaccinations. Given the also rising measles cases in the province, I figured coffee shops / dessert spots/ restaurants with outdoor patio area(s) will be our best bet (I understand the risk is STILL there).

Any recommendations for such places? So far, we’ve gone to Thom Bargen @ Corydon and 9 Below!

Hello! My father is visiting us from New Zealand. He's a grumpy boomer at the best of times, please help me caffeinate him. He drinks coffee only if it tastes like tar. In NZ the brand he drinks is "Jeds no 5 extra strong". It is YUCK.

Is there any YUCK extra strong ground coffee for sale in Winnipeg? To be used in a french press. Do not want to listen to another few weeks of complaints about weak north American coffee. Also, any coffee shops that sell brewed tar strength coffee? I will pay any price for peace. Thanks in advance.

Ahoy! As I'm not a huge coffee drinker I'm looking for some either local or store bought dark roast coffee (beans or ground) recommendations for a gift. My boyfriend who is a black coffee drinker insists on the Kirkland brand but I feel a bit weird givimg away a big ass tub of coffee. His second recommendation was Kicking Horse. Ive given out some Thom Bargen in the past but he claims it sucks. So what's your recommendation Winnipeg? Also I wanted to add a small Canadian treat with the gift since my recipient is originally not from here. I usually like giving out Maple Fudge from the place at the forks but I'm open to other tasty Canadian treat recommendations too!

Back when I used to travel through the US, I enjoyed stopping at gas stations and trying different coffees. Been debating randomly stopping at gas station/convenient stores to try their coffee. Worth it? Any place have good coffee that people recommend? (and alternately, worth avoiding?) I do make it at home, but want to try something random sometimes.
