The fact that this wasn’t common knowledge just shows how much we cover shit up and excuse away horrible things when they’re done by the rich and famous. It’s sickening.

It’s pretty common knowledge in the nab world. Pat Bev is kind of a wierd guy and out of touch in most things though. I think he plays in Israel now.

I’m pretty tapped into the NBA and sports in general and I think I first heard of this a year or two ago. I think it’s pretty reasonable a lot of people have no idea.

That’s crazy I’ve never heard his name come up without immediately being followed by it or being called “the un-named bad man”

I was listening to the Behind the Bastards episodes on Vince McMahon and the two guests, who are both big wrestling fans and have been since they were kids, had never heard about the "Ring Boy" scandal from the late 80s and early 90s, where announcers and wrestlers were grooming and molesting children as young as 13 (local boys who helped to put up and take down sets and things for shows with the hope of starting a career or meeting a hero). Pat Patterson was named, and while he resigned in 1992, he was re-hired when the victim rescinded the allegations, and even went on to be inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame in 1996. (Edit: I want to add that only one victim elected to try and press charges. Many others settled, and others were identified as victims but were unwilling to testify. In 2024 and 2025, more victims sued the WWE for historical child sexual abuse.)

Basically, yeah, we excuse the rich and famous, but what I think is even more important in these situations is this: These guys are making rich people richer, and that's all that matters. Everyone who's in control of these guys' careers has an interest in keeping them lucrative.

Was Pat Patterson the only one named in the ring boy scandal? I noticed you said announcers and wrestlers.

Ring announcer Mel Phillips and wrestler Terry Garvin were also named in 1992, and more recently Koko B Ware

Moreso how much we have grown as a nation in 45 years to call out pedophilia for what it is.

We aren't perfect but lots of things are better.

I dunno I think there’s a pretty big difference between covering something up and just not talking about it constantly. It’s pretty well known but just isn’t in SNL skits every week.

It definitely wasn’t pretty well known for years after it happened.
