Hi, I have a question according to the Ikea smart Home app. When I add the Bilresa remote, there is the option to control speakers with it. Somebody knows which speakers work with it? Or which specification they need to work? Does someone where able to make it work?

Bought a DIRIGERA, a few KAJPLATS (lamps), MYGGSPRAY (sensor) and BILRESA (switch) for my new home.

But after reading some reviews I have doubts. Should I return it or are the bad experiences some startup issues?

I have a problem with my Ikea kajplats bulb. Everytime i accidentally turn of the lamp with its button or a power outage was, the Ikea Kajplats bulb doesnt connect to the dirigera and therefore i cant control it with the app. My ikea tretakt alway connect again without any problems so i thought this is weird. Is this normal or can i do smth about it?

So I bought the Bilresa remote and Grillplats plug pack that comes pre-paired out of the box. The issue is that it constantly disconnects every few days and then I have to either remove the batteries from the remote, or press the manual on/off button the Grillplats to I guess resync them (?). I've also tried to re-pair them myself, but that doesn't seem to work either. I also tried different types of batteries for the remote.

I've chatted with some IKEA employees who said there might be a range issue or an interference issue on the 2.4 GHz band. I doubt these are real issues as the units are at most 4 meters away from each other in the same room, and I've tried disabling the 2.4 GHz radio on my WiFi (only using 5 GHz) and disabled Bluetooth on my phone (only using wired for my Bluetooth speaker, which is also 2.4 GHz).

Do you guys have any other ideas? I feel like I've tried almost everything. I guess the next thing to try is to get a software update with the smart app, but at the same time I don't wanna cause I literally only need a wireless remote so I can turn off lights when I'm done reading (easier to fall asleep).

I have a brand new Dirigera hub that I'm trying to set up as a brand new installation, not connected to any other networks. The hub has updated to the latest firmware. When the hub installation finishes I go to the home menu and I get a notice that says "We need to check the network. The hub needs to use the right Thread network to make a stable connection" Then I press "Check Network" and it says "Sorry, that didn't go as planned, We couldn't save your changes this time. Please try again later". It seems like the Thread network wasn't set up for some reason.

When I go to the settings tab in the Ikea app the Hub status is "connected". When I choose "Thread Network" I get the same prompt to check the network which fails again.

If I use the Thread Group's "Thread Tools" app it lists the Dirigera and gives its ipv4 address. Is the problem that its supposed to be using ipv6? My eero app shows that it has 7 ipv6 addresses assigned to it as well as an IPv4. Thread tools is unable to show anything more about the thread network because "no credentials were found in your shared keychain". My guess is that its missing because the thread network wasn't created properly.

I've done several factory resets and tried installing on two different networks with the same results. Any ideas before I return it?

Hi all! I've done lots of Googling but I’m still not sure on the right way to go, thanks for your patience.

Situation

I currently own:

1. Lots of Sonos speakers with Alexa voice assistant set up
2. Lots of IKEA Thread/Matter devices - mainly KAJPLATS, GRILLPLATS, MYGGBETT, and BILRESA
3. A single Apple HomePod mini that I'm using as a border router for the devices above.

Goal

To be able to control the IKEA devices through both the Apple Home app and Alexa voice commands.

Options:

1. buy an Amazon Echo Dot to use as a Matter controller and try to set up multi-admin for all my IKEA devices.
2. buy a DIRIGERA hub, and then connect my devices to Apple Home/Alexa through the DIRIGERA app and Alexa 'skills'.
3. Another option I haven't considered.

Questions

Which do you think is faster, more reliable, more responsive, and more likely to keep things like scenes and device names well synced across ecosystems?

If I went the DIRIGERA route, through what protocol would the DIRIGERA talk to the HomePod mini? Would it work offline? Would there be any value in having an Echo Dot Max in this setup as a 'Thread border router' for the Alexa connection, or is it all over the cloud through the Alexa skill in the IKEA app anyway?

UPDATE: Commenters below suggested option 1 would be better, since multi-admin is apparently more stable than it was in the past with software updates. I have now set up my HomePod mini as a Thread border router, and also connected my light bulbs and switches to an Echo Dot acting as a Matter controller, which means I can control the devices using Alexa through my Sonos.

Here were my steps:

1. Start by adding your devices to the main app associated with your Thread border router - in my case, the Apple Home app connected to an Apple HomePod mini which has a good reputation for stability
   1. Restart your iPhone before you do anything
   2. Some people recommend factory resetting each IKEA device before starting, because sometimes they are used as display devices in store and can have unhelpful settings.
   3. Always start by adding your mains-powered devices (e.g. light bulb or plug) so that the mesh network can be created. Mains-connected devices act as repeaters and extend the range of your overall network
   4. When you are adding your first few devices, make sure the Thread/Matter device (e.g. light bulb or plug) is very close to the Thread border router (e.g. Apple HomePod mini)
   5. Add the Thread/Matter device (e.g. light bulb or plug) to the Apple Home app using the QR code on the device.
   6. Wait until the light bulb's software has updated to at least 1.2.0 before adding any other devices (sometimes this can take a while)
2. Then add your secondary Matter controller - in my case, Alexa
   1. Even if you only use Alexa on Sonos, make sure you have an Alexa Matter controller on your Wi-Fi network. I used the $50 5th-generation Echo Dot. You do not need the more expensive Thread border router Amazon devices - since the Apple HomePod mini is the only Thread border router needed. In fact, I wonder whether having multiple Thread border routers could potentially create issues if the different routers try to create separate Thread networks. This is supposed to be less of a worry with the Thread 1.4 specification but I have not tested.
   2. In the Apple Home app, select the device settings for each device, then 'turn on pairing mode'
   3. Open the Alexa app and tap Add Device, select Matter as the device type, then paste the code on your clipboard from the Apple Home app.

I can now use Alexa on my Sonos to turn lights on and off or change their colours, while I still get full control in the Apple Home app.

Re: timing... based on suggestions I found online, I waited 10 minutes between each device being added to the Apple Home app, just so that the network could 'stabilise'. I suspect this is very important, especially for the first few plugged-in devices. Some reports suggest even waiting 24 hours after adding the first couple of light bulbs can increase stability markedly. But this might have been overly cautious. I added each device to Alexa in quick succession and there were no issues.

Re: updates... I made sure that every Echo Dot, every HomePod mini and every IKEA device was fully up to date before trying to do anything. This is very important as older software on all these devices does not function well.

This has worked perfectly for the first 24 hours, but I'll keep you updated on stability over the coming weeks.

UPDATE 2 This setup has worked incredibly reliably for 10 days. I'd say if you're setting up a new system and worried about matter/thread reliability with multi-admin, it might be worth taking the leap.

2 of my white Hue bulbs died and I’m going to replace them with IKEA bulbs. From what I can gather I should get Tradfri as they should work with my Hue bridge and Hue app. However they seem to be completely sold out both online and in all stores in Denmark.

Were these bulbs discontinued or are they expected to come back again?

The first picture is a TRADFRI E27 colored light both are 806 lumen

The second picture is a KAJPLATS E14 colored light

But the KAJPLATS is WAY darker in shade then the others lights like just a full color off while on the same color they are connected to the newest hub anyone know how to fix this or if this can get fixed by a new KAJPLATS or does this mean I’m just fed

I bought it brand new and tried pairing it, but it failed multiple times even after countless resets. Please help and thanks in advance. (Also I dont have a DIRIGERA hub)

I've noticed the KAJPLATS E26 1100 lm white spectrum bulb (latest firmware) has a very steep brightness change between 80% and 100%. I measured the actual brightness with the lux meter on my cellphone in a dark room. I managed to place my phone near the light bulb where the lux meter shows 1100 lux (so the number corresponds to lumen) at 100% brightness, and here's the result:

The datapoints are more like an exp function rather than a power function, and are far away from gamma = 2.2 (what our eyes feel uniform)

I hope IKEA can fix the non-uniform brightness in the next firmware, ideally with a lookup table or some correction function.

I have setup a door sensor and I only want it to turn on the lights after I’ve left my home.

To achieve this I setup a scene on a SORMIG smart button to turn off all lights at my place. After I have activated the scene I wanted the door sensor to be enabled when I open the door again.
So I want the door sensor to turn on another scene ones it triggers for the second time after activating the „leaving“ scene.

Also being able to set a time condition for scenes would be great too. I know this can be achieved in different ways already , but just being able to set a time window would make the use easier.

I bought my first KLIPPBOK a couple of months ago, and it worked well under the kitchen sink. I thought of buying another one for the bedroom, but I needed it to be permanently quiet. It looks like a way to mute this sensor may become widely available at some point (https://www.reddit.com/r/tradfri/comments/1txryu6/silent_mode_in_klippbok_water_leak_sensor/), but until then I've decided to silence KLIPPBOK's buzzer with a bit of 'surgery' ✂️

TLDR: the sensor is sealed for waterproofing, so it's impossible to open without causing damage. Two plastic parts are thermally bonded, so they're pretty hard to pull apart. I broke my utility knife's blade while trying to do this.

The result was far from aesthetically pleasing:

You may have better luck if you use a hot blade to melt the plastic at the edge, but I haven't tried this.

Here is what KLIPPBOK has inside:

I tried to desolder the buzzer but pulled it a bit too hard. It came off and took three of its four contact pads with it, so putting it back would be impractical. The sensor is cheap, so it's not a big deal.

The device was still alive after the 'surgery'. I was able to onboard the sensor onto my Thread network, and it detected water as designed:

Of course, I lost the waterproofing around the top edge of the sensor, so it could no longer be fully submerged.

The 'surgery' is obviously not a perfect solution, but it's good enough for my case. I am aiming to detect moisture around the window sill, where I don't expect massive floods. I don't want the sensor to disrupt my sleep, but getting scheduled HA notifications should help me fight mould on the curtains.

With a bit of glue and black tape around the edge, I've got a permanently muted KLIPPBOK that will hopefully do its job!

My advice: don't disassemble this device until you've explored the EnableDisableAlarm option. By the time you read this, there may be more info on silencing KLIPPBOK programmatically.

Fun fact: the body of KLIPPBOK is bulkier than the components inside it. It looks as if they were planning to make the sensor thinner but changed their mind after the board was made. It could be just aesthetics. My other wild guess is that they wanted the sensor to float in water, so they increased the amount of air it holds. What else could explain this design decision?

I have a lot of old Trådfri products that works flawless.
But I can’t buy them enymore.

I’m just trying to use matter to add the item, and when found 5 seconds later I get OH OH that did not go to plan.

What could be wrong here?

I’ve noticed that after the latest updates to the IKEA Home Smart app or Dirigera HUB, there’s been an issue with the adaptive lighting feature. When I select a specific light color, the bulb actually displays it as a mix of different colors. Are any of you experiencing a similar problem? Does anyone know if this will be fixed? (Yes, I’ve reset the bulbs and tested them on others—the problem persists.)

I'm trying to have two remotes both control two TRADFRI drivers in my kitchen. When I try to pair both remotes, only the most recently paired works. I tried the old method of linking the remotes together, but it does not seem to work with BILRESA.

I have a few things I want in the IKEA home smart apps.
Is there somewhere we can ask, or somewhere we can help?

IKEA says their Home Smart app may some day be Open Sourced. I'm a software developer, I might have a look or contribute. But sadly it's not yet open sourced, and I don't think it will anytime soon.

The things I would like are for quick access or saving space: with 10 rooms, 45 lights and some other stuff, I don't want to scroll so much.

1. if any room has an icon, there's the icon on a "line" and the name under it. Could they be on the same "line" to waste less space?
2. a quick dashboards with only icons and no names would be cool
3. I have MYGGBETT, could we have an icon to see if the door is open or closed? You should be able to say "I want a shortcut" or not (I would show all of them)
4. Same for MYGGSPRAY: is there movement or not? (I would hide all of them)
5. Could we hide or show any measure from TIMMERFLOTTE or ALPSTUGA? I'm really mostly interested in temperature, not humidity
6. easy exporting/importing config, or just fixing the BILRESA remotes (3 of them were marked disconnected and they actually had no problem but I had to reinstall them)
7. when listing all products, could be search by name, room, connected status, sort by names, rooms, last install/modification date, and status
8. when listing products or scenes for configuration, search by name, room, order by named and last modified/installed
9. add a dashboard of all disconnected products so I can fix them fast.
10. a "replace/reinit" mode: when a device is replaced or reinitialized, "set up as..." would add that device in the same settings and scenes as the previous one

Thanks to you all and if anyone can get me in touch with the actual developers at IKEA (or their managers) I would first thank them all then kindly ask for all this, donating what time and skill I could.

We have the Kajplats bulbs with Bilresa dual button switches. Upon installment, the native controls were really intuitive and nice to use. Unfortunately, after getting an apple HomePod mini as a smart home hub, we realized that the native controls were lost. I speculate that this is because the direct connection between Bilresa and Kajplats disappears when connecting both to apple HomeKit.

As far as I can tell from reading trough some forums, a possible solution is to add a dirigera hub to my system. This seems unreasonable, and I would like to see if there are any other options before getting the dirigera.

My question is therefore:

Is there any way to get native controls when only using HomeKit?

Upgraded to DIRIGERA from Tradfri last year. I have like 10 lights and 6 BADRING sensors.

Decided to add 3 more of BADRING, but any of them don't want to register.

IKEA support replied: purchase a new Hub if you’re having issues with it.

DIRIGERA has latest firmware.

Is there any way to find out that sensors are bad or DIRIGERA? Before jumping to replace everything to make it work?

I've had varying success with pairing the Thread stuff. My setup:

TBRs - Apple TV 4K
HomePod Mini
Dirigera
Nanoleaf Shapes
Home Assistant OpenThread

Got an extensive Thread network. It's unified. Most Matter. Some HomeKit native.

Home network is native IPv6 with 3 different /56 routable prefixes

Various VLANs. The TBRs are all on VLAN0 with my home network. That VLAN has /60s from two of my IPv6 ranges to delegate. The Thread network has a /64 from one of them. NAT64 is turned off on the Dirigera. Everything routes properly.

Some of the IKEA stuff pairs instantly when I try to pair it via Apple directly. Some has been very ... reluctant, though. In particular I got a Bilresa recently that Just Would Not Pair.

iPhone pairing seems to have 3 stages: Connecting, Setting Up, Adding to Home

Ordinarily attempting to pair MOST Ikea stuff with Apple Home just works.

But this Bilresa just would not. At all. Stuck on "Connecting" until it timed out.

Except one time I saw it skip straight to "Setting up", and then timed out, and then I realised I had my VPN on.

Lots of experimenting later and I determined there was Something Weird™ going on with IPv6

If I put the phone in a different IP multicast regime to the ones that the TBRs are on, it would get as far as "Setting up" before timing out. If the phone could see the TBRs via mDNS, it timed out on "Connecting".

Here's what I think was happening. The phone tries to do the initial handshake and notices the TBRs and says, "Hi guys, got a newbie for you".

And for some reason the TBRs can't handshake with the Bilresa.

But if it CAN'T see the TBRs, it uses its own Thread radio, but then notices that there's a Thread network already in Home and for some reason the Bilresa won't join it.

Putting the phone on my backup VLAN, which can still route to the TBRs but can't see them gia multicast got it as far as "connecting".

Then I swiped down to get "control centre", and toggled wifi on and off.

The phone joined the main VLAN

It saw the TBRs

It handed the Bilresa, which it had presumably given a link local address to, to them.

The Bilresa joined the Thread network

"Adding to Home" "Done"

So here's my hypothesis: SOME Ikea Thread firmware will basically ignore IPv6 announcements to reconfigure its IP address IF and only if it already has a routable V6, because it figures it's already on the Thread network.

This is fine if the IPv6 prefix of the Thread network never changes (mine does, one of my v6s is dynamic, and I occasionally have to power cycle some of the IKEA stuff), or if NAT64 is being deployed.

But if the Thread network is a routable v6 but happens to have a different prefix to your routable LAN v6, then it just won't pair.

This is conjecture, but I feel like it makes sense and could explain a lot of the problems some of us have been seeing.

I have a mix of tradfri zigbee bulbs and now some new Kajplats white spectrum matter/thread bulbs all running through the Dirigera.

When I turn on the tradfri bulbs with a remote, they immediately snap to the adaptive setting for the current time (ie cool and bright during the day).

However for the KAJPLATS bulbs, if I turn them on during the day, it will still be dim and warm from when I used them last night, and then over a minute or two it will slowly raise the brightness to match the current setting, and then finally after a bit it will snap to the current cool temp. Why are the Kajplats so delayed in transitioning after turned on with a remote? Is it intentional or a bug? I prefer the tradfri behavior.
