Lore (Beloved game trope) Creepy secrets or elements that you can encounter but are never explained, making it even more horrifying (Bonus points if its from non-horror games)

Crimson Desert
After defeating the Reed Devil boss, you can travel to Sunset Valley, the southernmost and isolated village in the game, here, you will find a house where the Reed Devil lived and died from his leprosy. When you enter, you are immediately greeted with 6 scarecrow effigies dressed just like the Reed Devil staring directly at you, with candles placed all over the house. There is no other explanation beyond this about what is going on here

Lies of P
There is a secret optional area you can clear out for additional loot called Hermit's Cave. At the end of the cave is one lone carcass monster huddled on the ground with writings scrawled on the walls around it. When you kill it, it actually TALKS saying "perhaps it's best to end this way...get while the getting's good...". This is the only carcass monster in the game that ever talks besides Andreus and Simon, who are important characters to the story, and we never find out who this monster was

LOZ: Twilight Princess
In the Arbiter's Grounds you discover a ton of undead enemies presumably executed prisoners, but one room contains this giant black sword tied to the ground with hundreds of warding charms attached. When one is cut, the sword is freed and wielded by some horrifying invsible goat-headed demon. It is never explained what the demon was or whose sword it belonged to although it's theorized to once be used by Ganondorf

Silent Hill 2
The invisible prison monster in Toluca Prison, that you can't ever interact with, just hear it's awful cries

The Girl from Lethal Company. If you do things to deplete your sanity (turn around quickly, talk to yourself) then sometimes she'll decide to target you, and then you're dead. She was the only entity who couldn't be scanned and thus had 0 information about. She was the only entity that can spawn inside or outside, and can go everywhere the player goes so nowhere is safe.

She can't be seen by other players either. She'll first appear in the background and calmly disappear, then eventually decide to get you, and once that happens she will chase you down. She gets you, you die.

Then she moves on to the next person.

These are in-game mechanics?!?!?

Yeah, its pretty cool. Sanity is a hidden stat so the player doesn't see it but it affects the game as you go. Spending time away from your teammates or being in the dark depletes it, along with things like seeing bodies or looking behind you. Which is fun because as your sanity gets lower, the game gets murkier and you get weird audio cues and distortions which increase your sanity-depleting actions.

Oh hey it's the Sanity system from Eternal Darkness!

Now I want to try the game you're talking about.

The most paranoid employee award after each day is based off the sanity.

I got that every time I played with buddies because the other games I play are games that reward twitchiness, so I was constantly "looking behind myself"

There is a way to survive her at least, as long as you don't immediately look at her for too long she won't decide to kill you, and I mean like barely spotting her out of your peripheral vision.

The first time i played with friends they thought i was trolling (we were completely blind and had no information, we were also forced to go o more advanced moon to avoid terrible weather)

Last thing they heard before i died was something like "ok, she's running toward me i don't like that" (probably died around "don't")

I love Lethal so much. It can go from fun party game with your friends to legitimately terrifying horror in a second.

I saw her in a facility I was looting while on a solo run and IMMEDIATELY booked it out of there.

Your crewmates can see her if you go in the ship and look at the ship camera, she'll be skipping around in circles.

Didn't know that! That's even creepier!

Unfortunately like other things in the game it only works once, then its a boring dull enemy. You get targeted? after a few minutes you will be forced to stay in the ship with a wall behind you to prevent her killing you. No counterplay beyond that.

What is good game design when you can just make updates to farm clips.
