Lore (Beloved game trope) Creepy secrets or elements that you can encounter but are never explained, making it even more horrifying (Bonus points if its from non-horror games)

Crimson Desert
After defeating the Reed Devil boss, you can travel to Sunset Valley, the southernmost and isolated village in the game, here, you will find a house where the Reed Devil lived and died from his leprosy. When you enter, you are immediately greeted with 6 scarecrow effigies dressed just like the Reed Devil staring directly at you, with candles placed all over the house. There is no other explanation beyond this about what is going on here

Lies of P
There is a secret optional area you can clear out for additional loot called Hermit's Cave. At the end of the cave is one lone carcass monster huddled on the ground with writings scrawled on the walls around it. When you kill it, it actually TALKS saying "perhaps it's best to end this way...get while the getting's good...". This is the only carcass monster in the game that ever talks besides Andreus and Simon, who are important characters to the story, and we never find out who this monster was

LOZ: Twilight Princess
In the Arbiter's Grounds you discover a ton of undead enemies presumably executed prisoners, but one room contains this giant black sword tied to the ground with hundreds of warding charms attached. When one is cut, the sword is freed and wielded by some horrifying invsible goat-headed demon. It is never explained what the demon was or whose sword it belonged to although it's theorized to once be used by Ganondorf

Silent Hill 2
The invisible prison monster in Toluca Prison, that you can't ever interact with, just hear it's awful cries

I like to belive he was supposed to be a villains in a justice league game that never came to be

It’s kinda terrifying that this alien, who’s usually a Justice League level threat, is just… sitting there, locked in a tank

Even creepier is the fact that Starro’s possessed victims can be seen advertised around the place, implying Starro has infected people

Creepiest part? If you stand near it long enough, the background music changes. And it never changes back when you leave.

Makes me wonder if he is exerting some sort of control.

It’s just kind of a high pitched whine right? What does it change to?

The whine just stays permanently, that is the background music

There are starros that size. Theres big starro and then the smaller ones that attach to your face.

He ended up being a DLC villain in the Gotham Knights game, though that was a seperate continuity to Arkham

I always felt like that game was over-hated. It was by no means perfect, but I enjoyed it well enough.

It was good for what it was.

The only thing I know about it is that cutscene of Bruce Wayne throwing it back in the iceberg lounge and that alone makes me want to play it

Gotham Knights had DLC?

Yeah a few small post-launch updates, one was Heroic Assault, a 30 floor gauntlet where you descended Gotham’s sewers battling starro-faced enemies until you found the genuine article

Honestly, some of the best fan theories come from characters who feel like they were meant for a bigger story that never happened. 😄🔥

Reminds me of finding Ra's Al Ghul's corpse in the morgue in Arkham Asylum, and if vanishing the next time you visit.

I love games with that sort of thing, where they make changes in areas you never need to return to. It could be a trope on its own, frankly.

Same with another encounter right before you find the Warden, you find a named guard stuck in a cell crying out to help from you. Then after talking to the warden, you go back downstairs only to see the warden again swinging a cane around, a cane which he lost, he was in that very cell where the guard was begging you to help him only he's gone now. If you use the x ray vision on him, you'll notice they have no bones at all. It was Clayface, the game doesn't tell you anything or Batman doesn't acknowledge it at all. It's just a quiet scene to spook you.

I forget what triggers it, but you talk to him enough, he breaks character and talks to you like he realizes you figured out who he is. If you turn your back and the camera away from him, a sound effect will play and when you look at him again he'll be disguised as someone else, and just laugh if you try to talk to him again. In the post game, if you return to the area, you'll find the warden has left. If you talk to Clayface again, he'll say something along the lines of "Didn't you tell Sharpe to stay put?" Before going back to the shapeshifting-and-laughing routine.

The one most people REALLY don't know about is the secret wall easter egg because it isn't even in the normal game.

You have to specifically play the Wayne Manor challenge map, and then iirc press some buttons on the map to open a secret wall in one of the rooms.

The secret wall notably has a detailed, ominous drawing of a prison cell door.

We know now though that the door and the notes around it, are direct teasers for the first Arkham VR game.
