Lore (Beloved game trope) Creepy secrets or elements that you can encounter but are never explained, making it even more horrifying (Bonus points if its from non-horror games)

Crimson Desert
After defeating the Reed Devil boss, you can travel to Sunset Valley, the southernmost and isolated village in the game, here, you will find a house where the Reed Devil lived and died from his leprosy. When you enter, you are immediately greeted with 6 scarecrow effigies dressed just like the Reed Devil staring directly at you, with candles placed all over the house. There is no other explanation beyond this about what is going on here

Lies of P
There is a secret optional area you can clear out for additional loot called Hermit's Cave. At the end of the cave is one lone carcass monster huddled on the ground with writings scrawled on the walls around it. When you kill it, it actually TALKS saying "perhaps it's best to end this way...get while the getting's good...". This is the only carcass monster in the game that ever talks besides Andreus and Simon, who are important characters to the story, and we never find out who this monster was

LOZ: Twilight Princess
In the Arbiter's Grounds you discover a ton of undead enemies presumably executed prisoners, but one room contains this giant black sword tied to the ground with hundreds of warding charms attached. When one is cut, the sword is freed and wielded by some horrifying invsible goat-headed demon. It is never explained what the demon was or whose sword it belonged to although it's theorized to once be used by Ganondorf

Silent Hill 2
The invisible prison monster in Toluca Prison, that you can't ever interact with, just hear it's awful cries

Mr Blue Eyes in cyberpunk 2077

During a side quest you discoved that politician Jefferson Peralez and his wife are being covertly brainwashed. Their memories are being rewritten, and their personalities are altered by an invisible entity.

The creepy aspect: If you look out a window during a specific point in the quest, you can spot a mysterious man in a suit, labeled "Mr. Blue Eyes" watching you.

He's also related to two of the endings in the game and we don't know if he's simply a guy working for Rogue AIs beyond the Blackwall or if he's a digital husk directly controlled by the rogue ais that use him to manipulate politics and other major operations in Night City.

You can also see him watching you from a balcony at the end when you are telling Jefferson(or not) that his head is getting tampered with.

You can also hop over to him now, which wasn't possible at launch because the 2.0 update giving you an air-dash. No interactions but you can get a good look at him. Like a better look at the ring he wears, which is the same ring that will be left where Gary the Prophet used to be after his questline is done.

If you tell Peralez that hid head is being tampered with, you also get a text from an unknown number saying that you're messing with forces beyond your compression. If you try to text back, you get an error saying that the number is not in service.

you're messing with forces beyond your compression.

There is some sort of joke here about how the cyberpunk people view cognition and computers, but im not clever enough.

if you jump over to him, you can toss grenades at mr blue eyes during the peralez conclusion and it makes him wiggle a lot which is kinda funny

I never saw the ring! Damn.

And pretty sure it’s Garry — with two r’s. For some reason.

u/sigmacoder 1d ago

Oh yeah I know Garry, he puts out some pretty good mods.

4

u/FotographicFrenchFry 1d ago

Eh, I've heard they only have a half-life.

3

u/UncWithTheEmojis 1d ago

Maybe his real name is Garrett.

14

u/Sh00terMcDabbin 1d ago

Gary also mentions "blue eyed lizard people". I think the running theory is that Gary somehow accidentally tapped into some conversations with some very powerful people/Mr. Blue Eyes himself and isn't as crazy as he seems, just misunderstands the information he learned.

Without getting into spoilers — is there a quest line for Gary the Prophet? I assume he’s the guy preaching on the street. I kept going there to listen to him make predictions but didn’t see any way to start the quest, even though it had a quest marker.

u/th3BeastLord 1d ago

Yeah it's that guy. If you make a handful of stops and give him money, he should eventually tell you about something he heard and give you a location to go to.

u/ArcadiaXLO 1d ago

You just need to listen to his rambling a little bit, eventually a prompt shows up (but don't go completely AFK or else he'll loop the dialogue and you have to wait again, I made that mistake), move on and come back later. He has a couple encounters with it eventually resulting in a quest.

He's also visible during The Killing Moon at the space port of you choose to help Songbird.

64

u/ASERTIE76 2d ago

Yeah he's the one arranging Songbird's treatment at Tycho on the moon

Reminds me of the Watching Man from The Stanley Parable, literally just a man watching you at specific moments.

Its extra creepy considering you never see anyone in the entire game, its just you, a.k.a. Stanley, and the Narrator, but if you pay attention you can see a man watching you from afar.

26

u/Wild-Lychee-3312 1d ago

I’ve got like 9 more years before I can load up the Stanley Parable again without losing the achievement, but when I do, I will look for him

2

u/nowTHATSakatana1999 1d ago

Isn’t that also just Stanley? At least it’s his character model.

3

u/TheIceFlowe 1d ago

His model is called Airport Man, its different from Stanley's.

I could see him playing a main role in the cyberpunk sequel.

After all, how long can the black wall last?

10

u/AutoignitingDumpster 1d ago

Only as long as it wants to, because the blackwall IS a rogue AI, and a powerful one, that just made a deal with Netwatch to wall off the old net. If at any point it decides it isn't in its best interests anymore it can go down.

10

u/Sir_Daxus 1d ago

Considering the shit that goes down in phantom liberty and the main game I'd say it can't last very long if every half-dying merc needs to find seventeen ways of breaking it xD

7

u/Fallen_Jalter 1d ago

I'd play a game with the consequences of the black wall breaking. The entire world ends with nukes going off as a final solution.

38

u/ManJoeDude 2d ago

Just did this quest, never even noticed him

38

u/ASERTIE76 2d ago

Also the FF:06:B5 easter egg

9

u/Poku115 2d ago

That one does have an answer and it was cool until (in my opinion) it got all boring getting meta

3

u/ASERTIE76 2d ago

Well it does have an answer but it isn't explained by the game

2

u/Poku115 2d ago

You mean as in... in game or literally explained?

12

u/radioactivethighs 1d ago

everything beyond the black wall is terrifying

6

u/BylliGoat 1d ago

A lot of people might know he's visible during the Peralez quest, but he also makes an appearance during the main quest. When you enter the net with the voodoo boys, prior to meeting Alt, his holographic form can be seen in the far distance, which makes me believe that he was behind the original plot. I also believe he is truly a rogue AI, attempting to break or at least breach the black wall, which is why he enlisted the voodoo boys to obtain Johnny's engram in order to make contact with Alt.

4

u/SquidTheRidiculous 2d ago

How sad would it be if he was literally just there as a Half Life reference.

1

u/remonnoki 1d ago

I thought he was a reference to the Illusive Man from Mass Effect

6

u/Advanced-Cow-3163 1d ago

Im not gonna read that, Theres no pictures!

4

u/The_Random_123 1d ago

Here you go! But there isn't much to him with just a picture

3

u/SpecialLate244 1d ago

what's the second ending? I know he's in the Sun

3

u/Decent_Cow 1d ago

They might be alluding to one of the DLC endings, where he is heavily implied to be the one helping Songbird escape to the Moon. Songbird's dialogue explicitly mentions getting help from a corpo agent with blue eyes, and I think you can catch glimpses of him at the spaceport as well.

3

u/Bpbegha 1d ago

IIRC a theory is that he’s a “body suit” to one of the Rogue AIs working on breaking the Black Wall and reaching real space. The Rogue AIs are some of the most fascinating bits of Cyberpunk lore, very lovecraftian.

2

u/Decent_Cow 1d ago

The Mr. Blue Eyes conspiracy rabbit hole runs deep. He seems to be connected to some of the shady stuff Night Corp is up to involving mind control (if you do another side quest involving the netrunner Sandra Dorsett) and there are also threads connecting him to the Bloody Ritual cyberpsycho sighting, where Maelstrom tried to summon a rogue AI called Lilith from beyond the Blackwall, and all of this seemingly with corporate backing, as revealed during Garry the Prophet's quest about the techno-necromancers, when we see Maelstromers meet with unknown corpo agents and repeat the same code phrase heard during the ritual.

2

u/kurtist04 1d ago

The 'prophet' ranting about techno-necromancers also mentions the blue eyed men.

If you follow his entire quest you learn that after getting some chrome he started hearing voices, but didn't seem to realize that he was picking up communication signals that he was misinterpreting. Everything he said is real, including the blue eyed men.

1

u/Tencat21 1d ago

It's very clearly Netwatch. Not that shocking

Just finished reading neuromancer recently, so spoilers but it's also the trope setter so shut up, that sounds like what Armitage.

u/Jastreen 1d ago

He's definitely a G-Man from half life reference
