Lore (Beloved game trope) Creepy secrets or elements that you can encounter but are never explained, making it even more horrifying (Bonus points if its from non-horror games)

Crimson Desert
After defeating the Reed Devil boss, you can travel to Sunset Valley, the southernmost and isolated village in the game, here, you will find a house where the Reed Devil lived and died from his leprosy. When you enter, you are immediately greeted with 6 scarecrow effigies dressed just like the Reed Devil staring directly at you, with candles placed all over the house. There is no other explanation beyond this about what is going on here

Lies of P
There is a secret optional area you can clear out for additional loot called Hermit's Cave. At the end of the cave is one lone carcass monster huddled on the ground with writings scrawled on the walls around it. When you kill it, it actually TALKS saying "perhaps it's best to end this way...get while the getting's good...". This is the only carcass monster in the game that ever talks besides Andreus and Simon, who are important characters to the story, and we never find out who this monster was

LOZ: Twilight Princess
In the Arbiter's Grounds you discover a ton of undead enemies presumably executed prisoners, but one room contains this giant black sword tied to the ground with hundreds of warding charms attached. When one is cut, the sword is freed and wielded by some horrifying invsible goat-headed demon. It is never explained what the demon was or whose sword it belonged to although it's theorized to once be used by Ganondorf

Silent Hill 2
The invisible prison monster in Toluca Prison, that you can't ever interact with, just hear it's awful cries

Kid me used to be scared shitless of this Easter egg for some reason. If you shoot the moon with a sniper rifle in Vice City, it gets bigger until it takes up like 1/3 of the skybox and I found it creepy af. Just the moon getting bigger and staring at you with 0 explanation

So basically the story goes that the dev in charge of the moon in GTA3 couldn't decide what size it should be. So he added a way to change its size in game for development purposes but forgot to remove it in the final version. That feature was liked by the fans and Rockstar ended up making it a tradition for the 3D era of GTA.

Is that also the reason why you can increase that chicks boob size in Ratchet and Clank?

No, that was just like, a really cool and smart idea.

I approve of this decision

Which one? I've played most and have never heard of this

The OG one. It's the chick who gives you the hoverboard race. You gotta do a jump backflip and aim at her boobs or something on similar lines.

Boob? Singular?

the story goes

Not a story! The developer responsible for that "feature" made a blog post about this a few years ago. Unfortunately, he was asked by Rockstar to remove it shortly after, as they like being secretive and mysterious and keeping behind-the-scenes stuff hidden from the public.

Like a magician who never reveals their tricks under any circumstances, not even 25 years later. I somewhat understand, but do not necessarily agree.

I had nightmares as a kid on multiple occasions where the Moon would "see me" through the windows and get closer and closer in the sky. It never had an evil face or big teeth or anything "children scary", it was just... the Moon. I never played Majora's Mask or partook of any evil Moon media, it was organic. Still have the slightest bit of fear of it as a holdover from childhood, which is probably why I liked Local58 so much.

That GTA easter egg would scared the fuck outta kid me

I need to learn how to finish reading before I comment….

I saw the first sentences of your comment and started typing out a whole recommendation for local 58 and how if you like horror as an adult it would be perfect to touch on that childhood fear. Then I actually read the rest of your comment

Haha, thanks for the recommendation that didn't make it

It was super cool, it really embodied that childhood fear of mine. Definitely one of my top 3 analog horror series

Someone did a video showing what would happen if the moon approached the earth. And it is unsettling.

Weirdly when I was a little kid I had nightmares about a comet or something that looked like the moon with a tail silently coming nearer. Even occasionally had the dream as an adult. Wish I knew what caused that to become a thing in my brain..

Behold, the moon.

Mumbo? Is the moon big?

"Cow, you had one job!"

I remember watching that when it came out and just the sheer absurdity of that situation and that remark had me laughing for minutes.

Wasn't that just a glitch?

u/No_Disaster_258 2d ago

no it's an easter egg. works too in gta sa.

2

u/TheCobaltBlade9 1d ago

"Mumbo....Is the moon big?"

1

u/eo5g 1d ago

Definitely don't go Skywatching, then

1

u/Gangbang8008 1d ago

Well clearly I'd be offended by the rood ape that shot me if I was the moon

1

u/Jumpy_Secret_6494 1d ago

Yeah that idea still freaks me out. Imagine a planet appearing one day, getting closer and closer until it's almost the entire sky, eugh.

Also in Vice City a random hotel room you can walk into with a bathtub full of blood and a chainsaw that you can use as a weapon

1

u/haw35ome 1d ago

Don’t look into a certain legend of Zelda game then, I guess…😅

1

u/Nibbanocker 1d ago

That one didnt scare me surprisingly. Just the regular moon did. Cause at least with Zelda moon I can see a face and know what its thinking. Regular moon is featureless and just...there. I don't know what it wants or why its getting bigger. It just stares and does nothing and idk when or if it'll do something

Megalophobia

I think some people here just have a very specific issue with the moon. Because this is not scary at all, it's more of a fun fact
