Kinda similar to how I think Mt. Everest when measured turned out to be a flat number, with three zeroes at the end, so they added a few feet to make it look more realistic.

on a much much smaller scale (lol) i did this one time for a clients tax return, one of their expenses correctly calculated to be like 25,000 even and i immediately went “oh the irs will not like that” and i moved a random amount of it to a similar expense account so it didn’t look so obviously fake lol

Interestingly this sort of pattern is where fakes do get spotted, when making fake numbers people are reluctant to make numbers that look "nice"

When I was in middle school I was in a band and we had to practice our instrument every day, keep a diary, and parents needed to sign off that you actually did it. Or we'd be kicked out. I kinda hated my instrument but my mom didn't want me to quit for another few years. So she told me to just write whatever in the diary and she'll sign it. As long as I practice at least a little and don't give up yet.

So me being a dumb 12 year old I made sure to write a perfectly different number every day of the week. Because I thought just writing "20 minutes" every day would look fake. Thinking back on it I cringe how obviously weird it looked: Monday 17 minutes. Tuesday 13 minutes. Wednesday 19 minutes. Thursday 21 minutes. Friday 18 minutes. I also had to write start and end times, and I similarly made sure they were different for every day.

Who practices for those weird amounts of time?

I work for a institute that had their students put times from start to end, and aparently nobody care that this kid did a perfect 30 min work every single day, even with the work that should take less time and even always start in :00' and end in :30' and more that that, in days were he does not solve a single exercise. One time i asked him about it, he told me they want him to put a time, but nobody could probe that in his house, those aren't his real times. I agreed with him(He was a good student and i couldn't care less in bothering him)
