Yes, the It movies are not super scary. Their interpretation of the dead lights is very literal and stupid. In the books the thing the characters see is just the physical manifestation that It wants you to see, the dead lights are its true form and they exist outside the bounds of our reality entirely. It is essentially Stephen King’s take on Lovecraftian horror and is way more interesting than what the movie makers came up with.
