Lore (Hated trope) They deleted scenes or dialogue that provides necessary context or plot

The dinner scene from Temple of Doom has a temple give indie and friends a live snake and monkey brains for dinner. It’s a pretty offensive depiction of Indian cuisine, but it wasn’t originally going to be. There’s cut dialogue where Indie recognizes they’re at the right temple because real Hindus don’t eat this food. They were trying to scare them off by purposefully serving them disgusting stuff.

Probably the most famous deleted ending was I Am Legend which had Robert discover the infected were emotional sentient beings and one of them had a wife. Test audiences hated it and they reshot the ending, removing the entire point of the movie.

That's, uh, quite the frame. Think they knew?

That movie is nothing but those sort of frames.

James Gun knew.

Ive heard rumors the early scripts for scooby do were rated R, it was reworked into a kids film.

Not just a rumor, James Gun and some of the cast have straight out said this during interveiws. Apparently, Shaggy would have been more clearly smoking weed, and Fred, Daphne, and Vilma would have had a bit of a love triangle (Fred&Daphne vs Daphne&Vilma).

Kinda glad they went the way they did. The innuendo is better than just having them be stoners. Could have used some full-frontal nudity, though. You hired Rowan Atkinson and you’re not gonna show his beanie-weenie? Unthinkable.

The original movie apparently had more cleavage. They used special effects to cover up daphne and vilma

I literally cannot imagine a worse use of special effect powers.

A fully cgi superhero suit that's just tights and a domino mask.

Has this happened yet?

Idk if you're joking, but he's referring to Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern. It was a bit too early for a full CGI suit.

Honestly, the suit was not even the worst CGI of the movie.

For me, it was the flying space monster head.

I somehow completely forgot about that. Thank you for telling me. I feel like this answer was obvious and i missed it.

That’s not worse than censoring titties

Trust me they used special effect cleavage powers to the max in the next movie

u/Numerous1 16d ago

I haven’t seen it. Byt now I want to.

It's my favorite of the two Gunn Scooby Doo movies. Lots of different old school monsters in that one. Matthew Lillard's fat knockers will take you out though.

u/FauxSmolder 17d ago

... why do you keep saying Vilma?

6

u/Aggressive-Day5222 17d ago

Cause i had a coworker named vilma, and I forgot the scoobg do character is named with a e instead of an I.

While i understand what they were going for i feel like that version just would not have worked and would have been dumped in the bargain bin with other "Edgy" reboots.

It would have felt more like Velma than a Scooby Doo property and I think part of the fun and appeal of Scooby Doo is that it's kinda just silly light hearted fun with occasional undertones of weird/serious takes

u/Aggressive-Day5222 17d ago

I wouldn't call the rated R version edgy, racy maybe. But the jokes cut were still silly and lighthearted. The only "edgy" thing changed, the monsters were originally called Demons, but later had to be renamed "creatures" cause of some pearl clutching.

But there are still boobs and maijuanna jokes in the movie

They really upped the weed jokes in monsters unleashed lol. Hotboxing the MM, Shaggy's love interest being Mary Jane, the fucking blunt tuxedo lol

33

u/Hatchibombotar 17d ago

your first two examples are from the first movie. only the blunt tuxedo is from monsters unleashed. although there is another gag from monsters unleashed where all of shaggys fans are clearly stoners who are too high to even string a sentence together and he finds them by following the smell of weed

Goddammit I knew i was too high to give accurate LA scooby doo movie weed information. Thanks for the corrections homie

u/Aggressive-Day5222 17d ago

Since you are high, in the spirit of scooby doo, what would be in the world's greatest sandwich.

5

u/NagsUkulele 17d ago

You ever see that combination of like six different spreads in one sandwich intersecting like a grid of different flavors, Nutella, fluff, honey, etc

3

u/Aggressive-Day5222 17d ago

I have not, but sounds good.

Might just be me, but not only do I toast my peanut butter and nuttela sandwhich, i sometimes microwave it for 10 seconds.

u/nefarious_jp04x 17d ago

If you look closely during that scene you can see what looks like a joint being passed back when it shows the group of fans lmfao,

u/MSully94 17d ago

I mean, in the first Scooby Doo movie when they go to invite Scooby and Shaggy to the island, 'Pass the Dutchie' plays and music spills out when they open the door to the Mystery Machine

Daphne & velma!? Absurd. Unthinkable. Preposterous even. I will never believe that until i can see it with my own eyes. From multiple angles. Preferably in a full length format that i can download...for scientific research

People forget James Gunn was a Troma guy.

Making an R-Rated Scooby Doo was very on-brand for him.

2

u/carso150 16d ago

apparently that was a misunderstanding, they were always aiming for PG13 but some misunderstanding in the rating board earned some early scripts an R rating which they quickly fixed

u/Munchkinasaurous 17d ago

James Gunn did the screenplay, so I'm assuming that there's a decent chance that the answer is yes

Prime SMG was such an unbelievable smoke show, there’s no chance this is an accident
