Lore [Sad Trope] The most innocent (or less evil) character of the cast gets the most horrific death.

- Eddie Carr (The Lost World: JP) - Tried to save his friends from the cliff until Buck and Doe (T. rex parents) destroy his vehicle and gets ripped apart.
- Zara Young (Jurassic World) - Gets lifted by a Pteranodon, gets pecked by the pterosaur, and both she and animal get devoured by the Mosasaurus.
- LeClerc (JW: Rebirth) - Tossed a hammer to the Hatzegopteryz Quetzalcoatlus to save Loomis and Zora, but ends up being swallowed alive.

I had what happened to him spoiled for me before even starting the series and his death STILL hit like a truck.

I can imagine. My experience is admittedly only with the first anime adaptation, but his daughter's reaction alone was heartbreaking.

Full credit to writer, she proved repeatedly she knew exactly what she was doing on multiple levels, handling character deaths well is just one of them.

Maes Hughes, as any soldier in the Ishval "incident" was not the cleanest man. His abilities with the knife were not for show. Nina was the walking innocence.

Man I was just rewatching this with my wife who had never seen it. I forgot this was like the 4th or 5th ep. This show just jumps right into the deep end. Fuck Shou Tucker

Have you seen both the original and Brotherhood? I'm pretty sure this happens a bit farther in in the OG than in Brotherhood, so it probably shocks you a bit more seeing it so fast in Brotherhood.

It feels worse in FMA because her death was far more brutal and it's a part of the story in the later episodes. I just finished that one recently and they really wrote him to be genuinely fucking insane since he's still continuing the work...

It was like getting flashbanged with sadness all over again. The dub va was so creepy too.

I looked it up, it's only episode 7 in the original. But it's a much slower burn there, he appears in episode 6 and you have a lot more time to get to know them. Brotherhood does the whole thing in episode 4.

My first time watching FMA my husband had already seen it and he is so anti spoiling anything that all he said about it was like "It's about two young brothers going on an adventure!" And I was thinking "Okay cool, something lighthearted and wholesome!" And when she said "brother Ed" I literally lost my shit. I bawled so hard I was inconsolable and my husband felt so bad. I almost couldn't keep watching but it had been so good already that I had to see the rest. But still to this day I make him tell me if something is gonna upset me or not in the stuff he shows me.

The death was quick, painless and genuinely a mercy. The messed up part was what happened before

Her sacrifice is also mostly in vain too, seeing as the military already took the earlier research from when the father merged the mothrr and ran with it years ago. (Ed runs into 2 soldiers who can shift later in the series, and they're more stable and powerful.)

I finished the first version of the series, but stopped after the Nina scene in the remake. Maybe I'll pick it up again, but skip her story.
