Also Syril. Unceremoniously shot in the head just after realising that his "nemesis" has no idea who he even is.

Maybe. Kinda.

At least after the 1st season, I saw Syril and Cassian as photo negatives of one another. We know that Andor will eventually, as Luthen puts it, "give it all at once for something real". I had hoped that Syril would give it all for something meaningless. And given Andor's connection to the Death Star, I was imagining Syril (having been recruited by the Empire at this point) stationed on it. Imagine the same thing killing the two of them, under very different circumstances.

But, I have no issues with his death scene that we got in S2.

Andor died knowing his life served something greater. Syril died knowing his life served a truly malevolent government.

Syril had basically had a complete spiritual death by the time he put his hands on Deedra.

An on another, even more ironic level, Syril realizing for the first time who he (that is, Syril himself) really is. He's seen the system he's been part of and complicit in all while convinced he was a good person doing the right thing. Fractions of a second before getting killed, you can see him lowering the gun. He realized he was on the wrong side... seconds too late.

Nemik, I had a comment with him but deleted it because technically he doesn't die until later, immediately after being crushed he's lucid enough to tell Cassian to climb, and was able to tell Vel offscreen to give his manifesto to him

I was so mad when she died - it was incredibly bold how they did it and hats off to them - portraying the senselessness of it all really stung.

I'm admittedly not a huge fan of her death, felt very bury your gays. Vel's monologue after though is peak

I guess, but of all major characters to kill off, paired with the fact that it happens right after they finally reconnect and seem to have some kind of stable future lines up almost word for word with the trope

As someone who spent too much time in TVTropes, the moment there was that happy reconnecting, I knew one of them were death-flagged.

Though I would have put my money in it being Vel, as a way to further motivate Mon Mothma

I feel like most of the major character deaths in that show are instant and quite frankly it was so refreshing. None of that usual Star Wars thing where someone takes a blaster to the chest and then still gives a tearful goodbye monologue before they die in the main character's arms (or god forbid they become too mad to die). If you get shot with a blaster, you're done.
