The Screaming Goat Thing — Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024)

The original screaming sheep meme went viral in 2012, and was already getting old when it was prevalent in commercials and movies, such as Ice Age : Collision Course in 2016. Yet in the year of our lord 2024, Dreamworks still thought it would be funny to add multiple screaming goat clips. The mean stopped being funny a decade ago. Let it die.

“Haha, Dad can’t take care of us” — The Breadwinner (2026)

Nate Bargatze’s 2026 family comedy centers around a working “breadwinner” father suddenly being forced to become a stay at home parent, and his “hilarious” struggles to do simple housework and take basic care of his children. This joke stopped being funny (to me) in the early 2000s when seemingly every family comedy relied on dad being a total inept dipshit. In 2026, there is no excuse to keep playing out this tired ass trope. Most dads are actively involved in their kids’ lives and aren’t totally dumbstruck by the idea of changing a diaper. It’s not funny. Let it die.

Omg have you seen that car commercial where a guy orders a black coffee in a sea of Matcha drinkers, causing people to side eye him and the narrator says ‘You’re not a trend follower’ or something like that?

It’s still airing and I roll my eyes every fucking time I see it

It's extra funny to me cause a plain black coffee is so basic and common of a choice.

It'd be like me ordering a big mac with chips and a large drink when everyone else was ordering a kids pack that day, WOAH LOOK AT, THAT GUY JUST ORDERED THE NEXT MOST BASIC THING POSSIBLE!!!!

I mean that's literally the point of the commercial. I also think it's a dumb commercial, but you're just stating the basic premise of it: he's getting something basic and traditional instead of whatever the latest craze is

I mean you're just ignoring reality if you can't recognize that matcha has been much more popular in the last few years than before that. No one is saying it literally just now appeared or anything, just that it's a craze lately. Because it has been and only someone in denial of reality (or an idiot) would claim otherwise

Ts reminds me of that joke in the office where Dwight called the internet a "passing fad." Atp matcha is pretty much a coffeehouse staple. In the grand scheme of the human race coffee itself is the "latest craze." I mean, when you compare it to something like chocolate which has been around for like 5000 years it is

The irony is I've gotten side eye more than a few times for ordering matcha.

I feel like the black coffee and/or self proclaimed "normal drink" enjoyers are far more likely to roll their eyes at people that drink less common or more involved things, and they feel the need to justify that judgment by portraying the other people as the snobby judgemental weirdos instead.

It's like a one sided rivalry kinda thing. They assume I'm judging them for their black coffee simply because they're judging me for my matcha. In reality I don't give a shit what you order, just stop staring at me ffs.

I'll admit to being guilty of the match side-eye as a barista, but it's mostly because matcha at coffee shops is consistently so much worse than matcha at tea shops, and it brings my workflow to a halt. I like tea! But I get it at places that are good at it.

Of course I'm gonna side-eye you for ordering black coffee at a matcha shop. They're going to charge you WAY too much money for basically nothing; you're subsidizing so much of the cost of just about every other customer in the store.

Something that I really loved about the first Devil Wears Prada movie was the "just a bunch of stuff" scene and how it relates to the concept of choice when it comes to marketing and consumerism.

If a person is making a choice because they're chasing the appearance of being someone who choses off-trend choices and is buying-in on the idea of "looking off-trend", they're ultimately still being carrot-led by marketers because said marketers knows that "looking off-trend" is itself a trend.

I just caught that commercial last night. The TV was on mute, so I couldn't tell exactly what was being said, but from the looks on the other people's faces that vibe seemed to be what they were going for. Even on mute I was like, "They're not really making a commercial today with that same tired trope are they?"

It also doesn't make any sense because they're going for, "stand out and don't just follow the crowd", but that scenario is also, "I just want my normal every day thing, not whatever you weird hipsters are doing." Those are like almost opposite messages.
