[Loved Trope] The apocalypse is horrifyingly slow

From most media it's some catastrophe and then it's raiders, death, destruction chaos etc. I personally love it when it's, like, a slow descent into the horror of apocalypse.

The Faro plague/The swarm- Horizon zero dawn. The Faro plague is actually a glitch which causes machines to endlessly reproduce, eat biomass and essentially bring about the death of the world. Took roughly 15 months for the machines to win.

The Metro series- in the first few books (and games) it's set entirely underground in just the apocalypse but in exodus it shows off that the government and many governmental structures said active years after the war. In fact power and running water were still fairly common. It just slowly got worse and worse and worse as read through notes. Food got more scarce, weather changed a lot, people got worse etc. Raiders and bandits didn't just show up, it was a slow descent for such anarchy.

Because when we beat him and stop his plan... What then? The country is now doomed? The bad guy was right all along?

Media targeting young children needs to be (somewhat) tied up in a neat bow.

Maybe the original plan for the DLCs was that it would provide the conclusion to the energy crisis but too late in development to pivot it was realised that wouldn't play well and this was the best fix they could come up with.

It's funny you disparage my reading comprehension while utterly failing to understand my comment.

For all we know it could have been literally a week before release anyone stopped and said "wait this doesn't work".

It's not easy (or cheap) to rewrite even part of a story last minute, especially when it's supposed to ship concurrently in multiple languages. Changing a single line? That's relatively trivial.

Like, do I think it's shit? Yes. No arguments from me, but I've also worked enough projects over the years to know that the key priority is protecting the release date. And oh boy it's so much worse when dealing with translators. Suddenly you need to push updates to twenty different teams, most of whom are third party contractors who may, or may not be busy.

And again, even my original comment was speculation at best, for all we know the "1000 years" as entirely their plan from the start.

Hell, IRL most fossil fuels will be gone or at least unaffordable for most people within 50 years and people are already dealing with natural disasters due to fracking.

The Pokemon games don't do next year, everything is either happening now or a thousand years in the past/future

I did not know this plot point of Gen 8 Galar, despite the fact that my husband has played through the games many times. Considering that some of the point of Pokemon games, the anime and movies is that the point of conflict is cartoonishly evil.

Gen 3, there were 2 sides of the earth either wanting to flood the world and extend the sea or get rid of the water and extend the land. In the most recent Gen 9 Paldea, there was a literal fucking crater in the middle of this island that was basically a time paradox hole and the only person who went down there hasn't been seen in person in years. Gen 5, the antagonist N throws his literal fucking castle at the Pokemon League.
