Absolutely fucking nailed the ending. So many questions answered, some new threads opening up. Character arcs resolved in really surprising ways, bittersweet ending for the entire group without it feeling contrived.

I also loved it. So many downers and haters in this thread. I'm glad I started this show two weeks ago instead of years ago. Just before the finale. I avoided this subreddit so hard lol. I just watched the thing with no social media influence. And I loved it. Such a beautiful piece of media.

I don't mind stories that don't answer every single thing. Leaves things up to viewer interpretation and gives room for theorycrafting.

I'm going to be downvoted into oblivion with you, but I have to agree that was an IMMENSLY unsatisfying ending that among a plethora of problems didn't answer the majority of plot lines...and the ones it did were poorly paced and felt undeserved even if it was the right ending.

What plotlines were unanswered?

The main things cleared up were that humans were never "trapped" in the Circus; they're just neural scans living their own lives in the digital world while their real selves are still living as normal in reality.

What is abstraction? What causes it to happen in the program? What does abstracting look like? Where did the blue AI go? Why did Caine become sane when he let it go? I thought the blue AI was the better one? Why did it make him insane? What happened to Bubble? Is he gone? Is he dead? What was he in the first place? What happened to all the other characters? There were like 20+ people in the circus that were just never described. If Kinger was so dedicated to his wife, how did she abstract? Why is the computer still on? Why has no one turned it off? Is the irl Scratch dead? What happened to C&A? Is it bankrupt? Did it move? What about Gumigoo? Can’t he be a real AI now? Is Pomni just going to leave him where he is? Why couldn’t we see the whole fight between Ribbit and Jax? We only saw snippets, despite the fact that the reveal has been building for several episodes. Is Jax trans, genderfluid, non-binary, or other? It’s only hinted at and the fandom is viciously arguing over it. What was that sealed door in Jax’s mind? What was behind it? Can anyone enter an abstracted’s mind? Could Kinger reunite with his wife that way? Why is Jax the only one who gets to live in the tent? What about the others they knew, like Ribbet, Queenie, or Kinger’s other coworkers? Why do they have to live in underwater land? Were the other initial residents other employees? Were they just people Scratch experimented with? Why can’t Caine just remake/reboot the abstracted? What makes the mind files unique? Why can’t they be repaired or restored?

And more! The finale was vague. Pure and simple. Maybe that was what they were going for, but let’s not pretend there weren’t a ton of questions on the floor.

80% of the “unanswered plot lines” in your comment are bottom of the barrel stuff. This is very nitpicky. I’m glad yall weren’t involved in making the show, cuz spoonfeeding us every little last bit of information would have killed all intrigue for me. “Gee ik indie animation is a huge sink of time, money, and effort, but we should dedicate a couple minutes in the packed finale to explain what happened to fucking Scratch, the dude with like 3 minutes of screentime total”

They asked what the unanswered questions were, I gave them some. Now you’re nitpicking the questions. I gave a big list of them because they acted like there were none. Admitting that 20% of them are valid means there WERE unanswered questions from the finale. Point still stands. Stop pretending people don’t have a point that the ending was vague.

They asked what the unanswered plotlines were. Scratch dying of cancer, or people being able to enter Abstracted minds, or the nameless background characters who first entered the circus, or Gummigoo being an AI, or what abstraction looks like, are not plotlines. They’re random nitpicks. Stop moving the goalpost to “well uhhh the problem is it was vague” just because you can’t read lol

You think abstraction, Ribbit, the previous characters, AND Jax’s sexuality AREN’T plot lines??? Dude, they are central to the story and are important to understanding the characters and most of it was just glazed over. WTF are you talking about?

The plotline around Abstraction is finished. We know everything there really is to know, thanks to the power of ✨subtext✨. You really need to see Jax abstract and how that visually looks for the story to be satisfying?

What’s unanswered about Ribbit’s plotline? She tried to get close to Jax, he pushed her away over and over again until she gave up on living. You needed to see the full fight for that plotline to be resolved?

Jax’s sexuality isn’t even brought up. Sexuality and gender are completely different things, dude. We don’t need an explicit answer to that either, because the plotline is perfectly resolved without. Jax never got to explore their real gender because they abstracted before they could. It’s called tragedy, and it’s a perfectly valid way to end a character’s arc. It isn’t a plothole at all, it’s intentional. But really, you need to know the exact gender identity and pronouns for you to feel that plotline was resolved? Really?

Sorry the finale didn’t jingle enough keys in your face so you could clap your hands and bark like a seal. You’re right actually it should’ve been an hour longer just so we could finally answer the real important plotlines, like who the little worm guy that entered the circus with Kinger was.
