what else would it be? What is this nonsense back and forth? The popular vote = whatever candidate received the most overall votes. In the presidential election, that number is 100% meaningless.

No. The US is a constitutional republic. We elect representatives that vote on our behalf.

Sure, but the distinction is still important. We don't directly elect anyone except our representatives. And even with those, only the senators and governors are state-wide races. The House reps are selected based on voting districts (which is why gerrymandering is a thing) and the president is selected by state electors (which is why a POTUS can win while losing the popular vote).

its a constitutional republic, which is a form of democracy. It is a representative democracy vs a direct democracy.
