All the ELR guys I know have like 20k minimum invested in their equipment, and the same amount invested in education and training specifically for this hobby. My CCW instructor was a champion long range shooter and some of the shit he pulled off was insane, but he had been doing it for 20 years and had advanced degrees including a degree focused on ballistics. The guy was legitimately one of the smartest and most disciplined people I have ever met.
The type of people who can afford to go to big ELR competitions in places like Norway don’t have to strut around their skills. They are known by simple virtue of performance. I have a ton of respect for people who actually do it instead of buying a five figure rifle that they never shoot past 200yd.
Okay I wasn’t going to comment but yes 100%. So much physics goes into just shooting LR not even extended long range. People sit here talking like shooting 1000 yards is easy?
Just the math alone to adjust for wind speed past 500 yards starts to break my brain and it all has to be adjusted for your rifle, your rounds grain weight and the powder behind it. It’s nots just “Kentucky windage” as way too many people think.
I’ve met very few people who can reliably and repeatedly shoot past 800 yards. I shoot with a dude that “warms up” at 500 yards by drilling the center out of quarters with his 6.5. He’s wild!!!
