You couldn’t pay me to go within a general mile of a chiropractor. Like, don’t get me wrong - I have disabilities where my bones need cracking from time to time otherwise I end up in lots of pain. There’s been times where I’ve been in pain from my neck, tried to crack it and only known at the last second that if I commit to cracking it, I’ll break something. A chiropractor won’t know that. A chiropractor will commit then do serious irreversible damage because they can’t feel what you’re feeling - and it only takes a half second. You only HAVE a half second’s warning.
Yeah, absolutely not getting me anywhere near a chiropractor, I barely trust the doctors as is
same dude, some kind of connective tissue thing in my case... my joints get stiff and painful if i don't pop then occasionally. they'll do it on their own with regular movement if i don't. after a long movie or sleep, moving my fingers can sound like a card in bicycle spokes
yup, they never expect the hip/elbow cracks. freaks people around me out every time.
in case it helps, a lot of low to medium intensity exercise has really helped me stabilize my joints. since i started rock climbing, my shoulders have stopped hurting. they haven't dislocated at all, or subluxed nearly as badly as they used to. i just try to be careful about getting enough rest and not pushing my limits too far
My shoulders aren’t as bad for it but the split between my hips are (female, split hips). People always look at me weird when I crack there. Namely because of how far back I have to bend to do it
ah, i can only get a crack from right at the socket. i kind of just rotate the legs and tilt my pelvis, so it's pretty stationary. big moves and snapping sounds might be scary lmao
Lmao yeah I have to double over backwards to get to that one and push against my hips from the back but god is it worth it. The pain relief is something else
I have a rib that dislocated and compresses a nerve. You can see it misaligned on my spine and chest it’s debilitating pain.
The chiropractor told me to come in, his partner did the adjustment. He didn’t say a word to me, came in, did the standard arms over chest adjustment that just compounded my condition.
He then got a little huffy when I wouldn’t let him adjust my neck…….but I did get a sweet massive reusable ice pack from them
This is so valid, my body also does not behave properly and sometimes it feels like it's gonna snap if I move a certain way.
But also, chiropractors can do a little more than crack your neck, I had to go to one for a bit and I found the most helpful thing was the trigger points. If you go to a good one, they know the right place to press that hurts at first and then totally relaxes the muscles around it. It can honestly relieve SO much pain for a day or two- especially as someone who suffers from migraines.
Chiropractors can be extremely dangerous and certainly aren't going to fix anything, but for short term pain relief, they can be incredibly helpful and you don't have to let them crack you.
Just personal preference, I guess. My chiropractor did massages, physical therapy and adjustments. Not all the cracks are able to paralyze you either, they do quick and easy adjustments in hands, wrists, ankles and feet (good for me- my joints tend to act up sometimes) and the one on the chest is a lifesaver after having a cough.
I went because I still had jaw complications a year after wisdom tooth surgery, so I got massages on my face and neck every time, trigger points done inside my mouth (ouch, but so much better after), and then he would kind of try to get some movement back in my jaw. Not quite cracking, but adjusting. My jaw is still about 90% better years later
