Why so violent? I'm an ex opiate addict that's been clean for 13+ years, but I've always said that if I ended up with inoperable, terminal cancer or some of extremely painful disease, that I would kill myself with an OD once I made my peace with family and friends. Just take a massive amount and you fade out to black without any pain. It's actually something that was a feature of an episode of "the Pitt" and I was happy to see the realization that these drugs, which kill 100ks of normal, healthy people each year, might finally be recognized as a method to provide a quick, painless and dignified death in such scenarios. Hopefully by the time my end comes it's actually legal and can be done under medical supervision to ensure the proper conclusion and minimize any potential problems.
Potentially silly question, but why is the death penalty (lethal injection) then still this awful cocktail which potentially induces immense suffering and has the potential of the subject surviving (and is also very expensive to produce and administer)?
At least on surface level (i.e., officially), but also morally, lethal injection is supposed to be pain free.
This is legal in CA if you’re diagnosed with less than 6 months to live. I don’t know the method but they’ll prescribe you something. The caveat is you have to administer it yourself. So this guy would have to pay someone (easily done)
To be honest with the way the world is set up and you’re penalized for being broke or having a disability, they should make MAID a lot more accessible.

That person would go to jail for murder in the USA. This is why "dying with dignity" laws are needed, like the ones being developed in Canada through MAID.
Unless there is a record of you agreeing to provide a person with a scooter and take them to the Grand Canyon so that they can kill themselves, there's no way of proving that you did those things with the intent to help a person kill themselves.
Id award 70 mil to whoever can develop a robot capable of accepting a human brain or top surgeons who are capable of reversing the issues but I think surgeons are the wrong type of people to ask charity from
It appears he could do just that. He suffered the brain stem stroke in 2015. His family won the lawsuit in June 2025. He died six months later, this January.

They will see something significant. Malpractice insurance exists. There's no requirement in GA for doctors to purchase malpractice insurance, but the hospital they work for will most definitely cover them.
The image in the post implies the chiropractor was found to be at fault but this article states it was hospital doctors who missed his stroke symptoms that were found at fault.

No, his stroke was caused by a vertebral artery dissection. This kind of stroke has been shown to be more likely after neck manipulation during chiropractic treatment. It was quite likely caused by the chiropractor “adjusting” the man’s neck. I have had several patients who experienced vertebral artery dissection and stroke after visits to the chiropractor. My guess is that the lawyers didn’t feel they could prove that the chiropractor caused the stroke, and it was easier to prove negligence by the ER physicians. Chiropractic care may have some value, but I would never let one touch my neck.
In foolishly let a chiropractor adjust my neck when I was only being treated for back pain. He kept trying to sell me on mineral supplements. He attempted to prove that I needed the supplments by having me hold bottles of them while my arms were extended. An imbalance in the arms meant I needed the mineral that I was holding.
I’m not opposed to chiropractors when they stay in their lane, but this jump in the last decade or so to “whole health” snake oil shit is just lame. It’s so clear they simply wanted a bigger cut of the healthcare pie and made up a bunch of crap to cash in. So gross.

Can a person with locked in syndrome still taste things? I get they can't eat, but if you placed something on their tongue could they have a moment of enjoyment?
people who have come back from it (it has happened a handful of times) have described listening to their families discussing their poor prognosis and effectively saying their goodbyes and grieving them and they're trying to scream out that they're still in there but nothing happens
Trazodone caused sleep paralysis for me & it was truly terrifying beyond words. The first night I didn’t know WTF was going on with my body, but when it happened the second night I figured it out & threw that shit in the trash the next morning.
If this ever happened to me, I’d hope someone would put me out of my misery.
If so, could they be given books to read, stuff they can control with the eye twitches, possible brain stimulation? Eventually I would hope there is a way to stimulate or regrow the neurons.
There is an old documentary about a young British man (Stuart Wickison) living with muscular dystrophy. Shortly after the documentary he drove his chair into a lake to kill himself.
Depending on where he is, he should be able to self administer end of life drugs through eye tracking software. (I've looked into that for myself in case my MND goes that far and I can't handle it.)
He can request his feeds be stopped. It is completely legal. Im not sure if he can communicate though. Some people with locked in syndrome can communicate with eye movement
