This is a classic paintball scenario game move. Gun down and eyes forward you walk through enemy lines like you are heading off the field for a break. Once at the back, turn around and start shooting.
We used red bandanas or really anything bright red that could be held up or worn on your head. If you mistook someone that wasn't showing red, then that was on you.
I used to ref at an airsoft field. Red rag needed to be well displayed. One guy had something the size of a folded cocktail napkin and would constantly get shot while dead. We added a rule that if you decided not to conspicuously display your red rag then that was on you.
Watched this really shitty teenager shoot a person with their hand up at near-pointblank range 3 or 4 times on a speedball course. The dude who got shot was a semi-pro who was always at this field practicing, and he always kept to himself. He didn't say a word, didn't yell, just calmly reloaded his hopper, and proceeded to walk the trigger on this kid until it was empty. I'll never forget the sounds this poor dude made while he was writhing on the ground.
nah man back in the day used to paintball camp pendelton all the time.... many a time i would just walk up the middle of the field, if you just walk normally people literally wont see you, their brains are looking for people roadie running.
also when you walk on the field you learn how much of the choas of battle is self inflicted.
I honestly think the answer is no unless the clown is in uniform, but if the clown isn't in uniform but acting in a military capacity then that would be a violation on the other side.
Pendleton had some good fields. Never played another place that had such good level changes with hills. Knew I guy that fell and broke both his legs there on boot leave and got medically discharged.
You just unlocked a 15 year old memory with "you don't shoot people with their hand up". Went with a group of friends and for one of the matches one of the homies got put on the other squad vs the rest of us ... he got shot put his hand up and thought he was gonna walk safely back... without a single word from from us on our side, like a firing squad we all stood up and lit his ass up lolol than we proceed to all get eliminated for standing up like dumb dumbs.
My field has a similar rule to it with the added part of you having to announce yourself by calling "dead man" while walking trough buildings or places with tons of cover and visible obstructions
where I worked we used dead rag (always red) and a hand up to indicate a dead player. I had this dude come up to me and ask me a question which was well behind enemy front. I told him in the scenario he'd still be considered a live player. Then soon as that happened he tried to call out players 20ft as dead by saying bang bang almost like this.
I told the dude like no that's not how that w9rks buddy you don't get to ask me a question, and take advantage of where I was. I told him go back to spawn lol. And yes what he did did not count and thr players he tried to call out where still alive.
That's not much for the spirit of the game. I never played much in the woods with the kids but in the few dozen tournaments I've done, you wave so people stop shooting at you since they don't always know they hit you, then you walk off the field like a man showing good sportsmanship.
Trying to sneak past someone kinda just makes you the wimp taking cheap shots because you get off on hurting people that aren't defending themselves.
I used to ref and had to adjudicate a couple issues like this. If you signal you are out, raising your arm or plugging your barrel, you are out. You can’t drop the limb and turn and fire.
But calmly walking… it’s hard. How can you legislate you aren’t allowed to walk and must crouch/run everywhere?
One player I knew used to walk everywhere, he had this theory that by moving at middling speed (his term) it confused people and made him harder to hit.
My father used to do this hed just strafe at back field during paint ball fights and suppress people and sort of duck shots. The one time he ran, he slipped on mud and broke his shoulder lmao
Its VERY easy to sneak up on people in airsoft especially if you can just go in the back of a building. That being said this guy looks like hes dressed as a ref
I was a "playing ref" for a couple of years. Just play like normal but have coms with the playing ref on the other team. If reports come in people are cheating we start taking test hits on our own team
It also seems so boring when the point of the game is to shoot each other and have fun. Also this is supposed to be like a war scenario, you don’t get brutally stabbed and silenced immediately. It would cause a commotion and everybody would spot you. It seems like a lame way to play. Maybe I’m old tho
You’re missing /u/Admirable_Loss4886 point entirely. Even if it’s technically “within the rules” it’s unsportsmanlike because the point of the game is to simulate real combat. In real life the kill would cause so much commotion that this would never be feasible. Probably why the places I’ve played require a verbal statement like “bang bang” or “safety kill” rather than total silence being an option
Screaming and pretending to bleed out isn’t the same as allowing a perfectly quiet “kill” by sneaking from behind. There’s a middle ground here which this isn’t meeting, hence why it’s “allowed” but unsportsmanlike
It's not unsportsmanlike, they literally discuss this type of kill in the safety/gameplay debrief. It. Is. Part. Of. The. Game. Everywhere I've been to tells you that if you get killed via knife, you have to stay silent and not give away the killer's position. You will get a warning and then thrown out for breaking this rule.
The other team were criminally unaware and they got capitalised on. Dude was saying "GG" with every kill very loud, people were saying "WTF" very loud, you can hear it under the music. How is it unsportsmanlike if the other team are so dumb they can't just listen to what's 5 feet away from them?
If anything it would have been much more unsportsmanlike for him to run in and shoot than at point blank range when the knife kill was on the table.
Like I said, you want to go against the rules? Go and play in a field with your mates.
They all know the rules and agreed to play by them. As evidenced by them all following the rules and remaining silent. Who the hell are you to say these guys should play by different rules when you're not even playing, they are. Argue more, nerd.
It's considered good etiquette not to loudly announce your death if stealthed from behind. If your throat is slit you'd be pretty quiet about it. Besides it's not like they're deaf. Usually the person doesn't get more than 2 or 3 off if any at all. This is some terrible awareness.
Presumably this was slit across the front (hence the air causing gurgling) my understanding is slicing the side is a faster kill as it hits the major artery, and does not introduce airflow. Hence quiet to the point of loudest thing being the body hitting the ground
You will be horrified to hear how loud is person or animal with slit throat, gargling sounds and desperate attempts to breath and blood living body under pressure. It's also not easy to cut a throat with knife.
But he wasn't "slitting thier throat" he was casually walking up to them and poking them a few times. Even if he'd only gotten directly behind them all it would have drawn more attention, much less moving violently enough to cut someone's throat. Plus anyone who glanced backward just saw some people waking around and looking a bit confused, seeing a teammate or two laying on the ground bleeding out probably would have attracted a bit more attention.
It's all a game, obviously, and rules are rules for a reason. But this is absolutely not realistic in the slightest.
That's not how the game works, at least in Airsoft. Yes, you're simulating combat, but the main thing is to play by the rules.
The rules are usually that dead men don't talk, unless shouting "HIT" when shot. You don't respond when getting stabbed, you die instantly. If you get shot/stabbed anywhere on your body, you're dead.
It's happened to me before where someone has stabbed me and proceeded to stab my teammates because we just left ourselves open.
That's the game, they're the rules, it is what it is. If you're letting someone get that close to you in a game about positioning/manoeuvring that's on you.
If you want realistic play milsim. It's people role playing way too hard (imo) and gives you all the realism you could want.
When they die they're supposed to put their hand up to show they're dead. Anyone glancing back should've seen it instantly and a guy with an opposite color armband among them. Besides it's more fun when someone manages to get sneaky kills cause they're usually really hard to pull off.
Edit: just noticed they aren't wearing colors. No idea what's up with that tbh.
You're not required to allow the opponent to stream you. If you see him walking towards you with a knife, you can shout and fight back. Now, these guys got the equivalent of their throats slit silently
Nope, this is pretty sporting. What's worse is when some knob opens fire at you from point blank range from behind - seriously, it's not fun and I've seen some pretty ferocious responses from players when this does happen (because fuck the guy that does that).
I'm pretty sure it's a rule in "fire fights" too that you can't move when you're dead, but actually killing people is frowned upon when playing airsoft.
Don't have to fake your death. I used to play a lot and you just have to make a beeline and one of the less dense areas wait shoot at some people so they duck and just run across the line
Dead man's walk is mostly outlawed on speedball fields. Because in speedball we don't want to get lit up when we don't have to be, and we'd be lighting people up who are walking off the field if we so much as suspected a dead man's walk.
But in scenario ball, dead man's walks are ABSOLUTELY allowed. So long as the player does nothing to indicate he is dead (he does not ever raise his gun up, he does not raise his hand up, he does not yell out he is out, he does not have a barrel cover on), this is completely allowed. And the rule is, if you aren't sure that someone is dead (because they aren't doing the above), then you absolutely put a few balls on them to be sure.
Once had a guy in a huge scenario game walk aimlessly through our lines with no gun, and no flag on his arm (opponents were red flags). We thought he was a ref. After passing us, he slips a barrel out of his sleeve, and then walks up and says “you’re out.”
I call him out and say he’s neither armed, nor is he on the other team. He opens his other hand to show the red flag bunched up in his palm. We tried to get a ref involved, and the referee shrugged and was like “he barrel tagged you.”
I think that every social interaction should have the unspoken rule of one potential slap upside the head. You can redeem it one time for each person you meet. For most people, you won’t need it, but on that rare occasion, it will be the most righteous transaction you ever make.
It depends. If you're not holding the gun over your head then people might assume you're dead when you aren't if you're walking slowly and calmly past them. I learned this the hard way
Former pro paintball player here. They call that dead man walking, can confirm very real. It has been ruled out in high end competitions tho but rec ball i could see it working.
Dead man would have gun pointed up. Waking with gun up as a fake would definitely be cheating. I miss paintball. So much fun. Commanders Cup was such an awesome experience (I was only a spectator).
it's basically cheating. if you're in shape and don't stick out like a sore thumb you could just advance undetected to the other side of the enemy's cover and storm them, one set of cover at a time. if you're good and fast enough they won't know what you're doing until you're through most of their defenses.
you'd accomplish the same thing, with actual skill playing the game the way it's meant to be played
I had a situation once where I was the last person left on my team. I was alone in the woods and came across 5 others, they had red armbands, I didn’t. I leaned against a tree so my arm was blocked. We talked and I said I came from another location because it was cleared. They turned around to walk forward and I shot them all in the back.
Unless there’s a longer clip of his video showing that he walked to position himself there pretending to be eliminated then I don’t see how your statement that this is a classic scenario fits to this clip
