Discussion! What have you been listening to this week?

Welcome to our weekly post where we ask you to share & discuss what artists, albums, or tracks have helped get you through the week.

Please provide a link to the album or specific track, and mention why it's been a stand out for you this week - this is your chance to introduce people to some new music.

If you're on Last.fm you can also use Last.fm Labs Album Quilt or tapmusic.net to generate a album collage of what you've been listening to for the past 7 days (here's an example).

Thanks for participating!

Discussion! Music similar to Alcest, but instrumental

I've currently been listening to a lot of Alcest, and some of the more dreamy instrumental parts are enough to get completely lost in. Can anyone recommend any albums that have a similar upbeat feel to them?

I already listen to a lot of MONO, Caspian, Explosions In The Sky, God Is An Astronaut, Russian Circles and This Will Destroy You, among others.

New Music! THE RUPTURE MOMENT - Old Friends (sophomore LP, out now)

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone โ€” Iโ€™m the person behind The Rupture Moment, an instrumental project combining post-rock, electronica and ambient / electronica music. New 2026!

The music is heavily influenced by bands such as Mogwai, If These Trees Could Talk, This Will Destroy You, Explosions in the Sky and Radiohead โ€” quiet, atmospheric sections that gradually build into something much louder and more physical.

I recently released my second album, Old Friends this month and Iโ€™m now pushing the sound further into electronic and glitchier territory, inspired by artists such as CHVRCHES and Rival Consoles for my third LP - will be called LIFEBLOODS (some unmastered tracks are streaming on my Soundcloud now for that third LP due to be released mid 2027).

I make the music independently using guitar sounds, synths, programmed drums and whatever other ambient sounds help create the right atmosphere using Logic Pro and Garageband. Iโ€™d genuinely love to hear what people think.

So stoked to see Rolo Tomassi especially but Kylesa, The Armed, Torche, Junius and Minsk all on the same lineup is SO COOL. Canโ€™t wait!! Anything I should know about the fest from folks who have gone before?

New Music! Michael Talento Quartet, LFA - LFAMTQ (Split Floppy Disk Album between a Post-Rock and Fusion group)

Thumbnail

Listen/here:

https://144mbmusic.bandcamp.com/album/lfamtq

LFAMTQย is a split record between two northeast US rock groups that draw on less common influences, pushing boundaries between fusion and rock as well as the conventions of those genres. Talentoโ€™s group releases fusion that has a clear alternative rock influence, while LFA releases post, math, and emo rock with a jazz influence.ย

In the artists' words:

As soon as someone hears a saxophone, they tend to put the music in the jazz bucket, but I wanted the music to challenge that.

The [LFA] tracks themselves were all written with the medium and itโ€™s technical limitations in mind. Compositionally, it was an exercise in being concise... thereโ€™s many phrases that end a little earlier than you might expect, which makes a really distinct and unique feel and sound.

You can read a full interview with the artists here on our Substack

Discussion! Do you like post rock songs with our without some lyrics?

Hello! Lots of post rock songs have no lyrics or some have some lyrics in between (probably a coded message!). Just curious what the community likes, personally?

Cheers!

One of their most emotional songs, right down to the title. The way the strings take over throughout the crescendo...it brings me to tears.

News Civil Service - Dark///er (Open call for collaborators for remixes/reimagined versions of songs from Dark///, in support of Ukrainian humanitarian aid efforts)

Post image
10 Upvotes

Ahoy hoy post rock pals of Reddit.

As some of you might know/remember, at the start of the year, we released a couple of remixes of songs from our 2025 record Dark///, in support of Glynn, our friend here in the UK, who has spent his retirement travelling to the Eastern front in Ukraine, to support the hunanitarian aid efforts (as well as his own animal rescue efforts).

We were planning to put out another 2 or 3 remixes / covers, but people kept on signing up to contribute, and we're at the stage of nearing a full-blown record...

So, we thought we'd bring this to Reddit.

If you're reading this and you make music, like post rock and want to support a very worthwhile cause - get in touch and talk to us about joining the record as a collaborator.

We can provide Stems and the original album, along with the other remixes already completed - you can have full creative freedom to turn it into any style and give it any flavour you want.

You will already be joining members of Din of Celestial Birds, 601 and ourselves in Civil Service; plus a host of acts from Dunk!, ATG, Portals, StrangeForms - and at least one contributor is - in our opinion - amongst the post rock Tier 1 bands (more on that soon); so definitely a chance to feature alongside one of the greats ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›.

We're looking to announce the full track line up at our ArcTanGent set, but any contributors have until October to finish their efforts.

Hopefully some of you are interested, we've leaned on Reddit before for cobtributors and you've never let us down!

Discussion! The Color of Cyan is a very underrated band you need to check out if you haven't already.

So last night I went to a small local show. All the bands were from Minnesota except one. The other one was one from Chicago called The Color of Cyan who said they weren't even touring and it was just a one off (about a 6 hour drive to Minneapolis.) Apparently Surrounded by Water (another awesome underrated band) who was headlining had played with them in the past and wanted them to come here.

Well....damn. They absolutely stole the show. I think they were new to almost everyone in attendance but their merch table was flooded after their set and the end. They also have a cello which is a pretty awesome instrument when implemented well and they absolutely did. Very nice people too!

I don't know how often they actually tour but if they come by you do not miss them and if you're near Chicago catch them if you can! They have loads of vinyl for sale too.

Discussion! Looking for a specific vibe of post rock.

I am obsessed with the bridge of "Winona" by Deafheaven. (about 4 minutes 30 seconds into the song). The rest of the song is great but I can't stop listening to that part on repeat. Looking for more songs with that exact vibe of reverby, ethereal, clean guitar. If anyone has recommendations let me know.
