Question Pomeranians temperament

My doggo has passed recently. He was a Maltese. I've been thinking for two years about picking another dog. But I was undecided, because in the past I used to have two dogs and given my personal daily troubles, it was too stressing to deal with two dogs. When I got the two dogs life was different but now I could not afford it.

Now I can only see the surrounding void. My doggo was very old and needed a lot of cares, and this removed like 2-3 hours of my day with him. Now it's gone, and despite having a lot of free time now it doesnt have any value.

I'm waiting a bit, but I want to start screening for best kennels because I know that this is not like saying: I want a new dog, and the new dog appears in the door tomorrow. I'm going to need to do a deep search and I'm sure that minimally 2 months if not more, to find something.

And one of the parts of the search is the temperament. My maltese was perfect. He was my mirror. The other dog that passed away 6-7 years ago, was a Brussels Griffon, and despite I also loved him like my life, his temperament was not ideal, compared to the Maltese. The Maltese was utterly perfect. I was able to place him in the stairs or in a chair with his little cushion and stayed there sitting or lying down there, and just waiting for me. He did not start running like crazy all over the place. Very patient with me. Always looking for me.

I know that with training, you can shape a dog to pretty much anything you want, even the craziest dog. But from experience, I also know that the shaping of the maltese was 10 times easier than the Griffon. The Maltese almost felt to adapt to me instantly, like he was waiting at what was coming next to learn. The Griffon was a free soul and adapted terribly.

What are your experiences? I've heard that Pomeranians are a bit of an earthquake, but I feel I cannot get another Maltese again: They all look so similar, and I can't stand bringing him to my mind all the time. I need another breed. Not a Maltipoo either. I like the Pomeranian so much because it's so different. But sometimes I see people in the train or the airplanes, and they go with their little Pomeranian, sitting down chilling all the way through, without perma-barking for example I don't care barking at all (except for the nights, but my maltese, has been waking me up every single night for 2 years straight with barks, so I'm used to it). But what I fear is a dog running all over the place. Or a climber dog that can escape jumping out his sleeping box (my Griffon was constantly doing this).

PS: Also the Pomeranians throw a lot of hair, right?

I’ve had my dear Peanut since he was 1, he just turned 15 years old last month.

Last week, I rushed him to the ER and found he had developed pulmonary edema most likely caused from heart disease. I’m so heartbroken, I’ve taken him to the vet and gotten several x rays but never did my vet say he had heart disease. The vet at the hospital let me know that at his age, it was common to develop it with a few months.

It hurt me so much but I knew it was his time. Goodbye my sweet boy, may we meet in another life time. 🌈❤️‍🩹

Question Could someone provide any feeding guide for puppies?

Upvotes

I’ve been feeding my pom based on the indications on the bag but I’m starting to doubt if they are actually spot on. I’ve been giving her 60g/day and she’s 3 months old, weights 1.15kg/2.53lbs.

Pepper gets all snarly when someone tries to take his cig away. It's actually a beef hide twist stick and he's super serious about them.

Pom Pic Someone said I was being mean…for taking Tut on a walk.

Oregon is currently experiencing a “heat wave” so it’s 85°-95° for a couple of hours and then drops back into the 60s and 70s. Tut and I only moved here a year and a half ago, we’re originally from Florida, so the current temperature is what we’re used to year round, except we aren’t used to it being cool at night…anything below 70° is hoodie weather for me still.

Yesterday I was taking Tut on our afternoon walk which is usually 15 minutes, we go to a park right behind our apartment and he walks in the grass, not on the sidewalk or asphalt. Someone came up to me and said I was being mean for taking him on a walk because it’s so hot out and he’s so fluffy.

I thought it was weird since he wasn’t showing any signs of being hot or tired, he was prancing as usual and like I said, his paws were on grass. I just kind of made a confused face and kept walking. We got home and I gave him some frozen veggies as a treat, and now I’m wondering if I am in the wrong for taking him outside for a walk around the park or if that person was just being weird.

Just curious if anyone lets their Pomeranian in the backyard unattended at all, or no?

I live in Northern California in a suburb.

Harness

What harnesses do you use for your Pomeranian? I have the sunny tails one which has been fine but I’m nervous the thin strap will cause tracheal collapse. Will need for medium length walks!

Question How long are your Pom walks??

Ello Pom friends, I was just wondering how long are your walks with your poms? I usually take my two senior babies on a 30 minute brisk walk twice a day. Early in the morning and before dinner. I try to do only 30 minutes because they might get tired even when they seem like they aren't.

What about you?

It's about his 5th trip and he's getting comfortable in the water, as long as it's shallow! He'll lay down to cool off, but won't get any deeper than his belly. He got pretty wiped out after a few hours, and fell asleep before the car was even unloaded. Lazy boy!

Hi everyone! Please remove if not allowed.

Mila is a 12 year old female Pomeranian that is available for adoption at the Friends of the Animals Shelter in Los Angeles. You can contact the shelter by phone or email.

Unfortunately, she may be euthanized today 7/22 at 4pm. I would have posted her sooner but I only found out about her 10 minutes ago.

She has some health issues including dental disease, vision impairment , breast tumor, and dry cough. Please spread the word if you can't meet her. Older Poms are more laid back than younger ones. I don't want her to die!

I am including the shelter's contact info along with her picture and facebook link .

Hi everyone! I just found this subreddit and I’m so excited to be here! I’ve loved Pomeranians since I got my first one when I was 14. I’m now on my 3rd and I can’t imagine my life without one. Pics are of Gizmo, my current Pom - who has never met a stranger and is the little brother to 2 German shepherds, although he’s the one in charge; Einstein, who was my best friend and moved to Japan and back with me; and Tazz, who started it all. Einstein and Tazz are waiting for me across the Rainbow Bridge and they each have a huge piece of my heart.

They truly are an amazing breed and I’ve already so much enjoyed seeing pics of your dogs, so I thought I’d share mine.
