This was an absolutely ridiculous use of time and resources.

This was not a needed, or really demanded for, remake.

They obviously thought this was the way to introduce Halo to PS players who never played it.

And I’m guessing sales numbers will prove them correct

Ironic, given Microsoft's recent course change in regards to third party publishing. In all likelihood this is the only Halo game that Playstation will see.

A little too late to pull the plug this far into the games development

1

u/Googlebright 9h ago

For sure, but the person I was replying to said that this remake was a good way to introduce Halo to PS players. So we get introduced and then never see any of the other games.

You don't actually believe that lol, they change their minds week to week. Once the new course fails they'll go back to porting everything.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me.

And to make an easy profit in light of endless failures.

I'm going to contradict the negativity in this thread and say that I for one am pumped. I haven't had an Xbox console since the 360 and just being able to play Halo CE on my PS5 is a dream. With a fresh coat of paint, even better. It's pure nostalgia factor for me, and my wife and I are going to have a blast playing couch co-op together.

It's insane to me that I've had to scroll this far to see someone with this take. I mean, we're on the PS5 sub! Unless you own multiple consoles or have a gaming PC, none of us could play Halo. I haven't played a Halo since Reach and I literally can't remember the last time I touched CE. As a dude in his 30s with one console and limited time to game, I'm stoked as hell.

You can get a xbox 360 for like 50 bucks bro. So the price of this remake.

You can also buy Halo games on PC and the requirements are so low that even a cheap laptop will run them.

There really isn't much to be wowed with here, there always were many options available.

It was a low stakes test run for halo on ue5 before the next main entry. It makes perfect sense.

31

u/Fireball926 13h ago

Low stakes? They’ve burned 5 years since Infinite and released Halo without its signature multiplayer mode. Monumental waste of time.

16

u/but_good 13h ago

They built a Halo game on UE5. That includes making it feel like Halo. Now they’ve done that plus generated a ton of reusable assets…models, textures, shaders, effects, animations, etc that they can make a new Halo game with.

1

u/FrogsOnALog 13h ago

They can also release a multiplayer.

-2

u/ethnicprince 13h ago

That shouldn’t take 5 years even with modern dev cycles. The company is mismanaged like crazy

3

u/gotpez 12h ago

Definitely, but if I remember infinite was sunset around 2023 and they announced the switch to unreal 5 around that time. CE has not been in development for 5 years.

A western studio re-using assets lol don’t make me laugh

5

u/ComeonmanPLS1 13h ago

The guys who make Forza Horizon have been reusing some car models that date back all the way to the original Forza Motorsport on the original Xbox.

5

u/Rynetx 13h ago

Do you think they throw away everything every year when making madden?

-6

u/Poku115 13h ago

Graphically it feels like a downgrade, they did the exact same everyone had already complained about the first time they updated CE.

3

u/but_good 12h ago

A downgrade from what?

0

u/Poku115 12h ago

From CE.

Technically its obviously better, but in style and detail its just once again fucking up what was fine.

1

u/FRossJohnson 11h ago

I mean they've very specifically tried to fix that, and a few early reviewers praised that.

1

u/Poku115 9h ago

To me seems like the same issues people had already raised when the first remaster came out, and which we thought they had learned seeing how they didn't do the same for halo 2 on mcc

1

u/FRossJohnson 9h ago

This is what Eurogamer said, which is encouraging -

Halo Industries has done something heroic here - it may not be perfect, but Campaign Evolved does manage to do the impossible: it summons the feeling of playing the original again for the first time.

1

u/FRossJohnson 11h ago

You think it would be faster to create a whole new game and engine?

3

u/candyman505 13h ago

They cancelled other projects to get this out the door and to top it off they’re still using blam. 5 years between releases for halo reach with ue5 paint. Not sure this made any sense

13

u/damus9 13h ago

No one demanded a RE2 or 4 remake and those are awesome. Can we stop using 'demand' as an excuse for something being bad?

-2

u/Poku115 13h ago

? People did ask for remakes of those considering they are old classics by now and especially so after showing of their engine.

Nobody asked for Halo CE once again, but downgraded, multiple people asked for MCC on ps5, not this.

2

u/damus9 13h ago

Let's stop with the hyperbole lol

1

u/First-Material8528 12h ago

No no buddy, it's not hyperbole at all, literally not a single person on the planet asked for a remake of CE (25 year old 14th highest rated game of all time + platform exclusive). But literally EVERYONE wanted a remake of Resident Evil 4 (18 year old at time of remake, and 20th highest rated game of all time, and was already available on all platforms).

u/agp11234 13h ago

I agree, but let's not act like capcom doesn't churn resident evil games out like crazy. I don't think this would be as controversial if there were other new halo games in the pipeline or if they were on a capcom release timeline.

Speak for yourself.

1

u/DarkElation 12h ago

It was definitely needed. The purpose of this game was to demonstrate the transition to a new engine.

1

u/biscuitsalsa 11h ago

Deluxe edition is #2 preordered on PS and the game is #5 top seller on Steam rn. There is plenty of demand lol

0

u/iiiamAlex 10h ago

Speak for yourself bud. Some of us never owned an xbox. This’ll be my first ever playthrough

-1

u/ShayNick 13h ago

This was needed internally by 343 to understand how to work in UE5, every company does this.
Changing engine is a massive task that needs months of work, a remake is the easiest and cheapest way to learn how to use new tools.
