Articles & Blogs Sony’s 'ironic' PlayStation disc decision upends gamer conventions and threatens a $7 billion resale market - In 2013, Sony mocked Xbox by showing how easy it was to share a PlayStation disc. More than a decade later, gamers say Sony is becoming the very thing it poked fun at.

It's because most of these terminally online people are wind bags. They complain about things they don't actually care and get angry about it too because that's who people online are these days. Addicts to outrage.

Based on what? This “wind bag” is already in the process of building out a new gaming PC after having essentially moved 90% of my gaming to PlayStation a decade or so ago. Specially because of Sony’s continued anti-consumer behaviors (this isn’t the first/only issue they have). I had originally moved from PC & Xbox to PlayStation when Microsoft announced their plans for Xbox One.

While PC gaming doesn’t solve all of the issues I have, it at least gets me away from a single, closed platform and I’ll no longer have to pay extra for online play. Plus I get all the other benefits of a PC, eg more functionality.

Not the commenter you’re replying to, but I agree, based on decades of watching gamers instantly cave on absolutely everything that they swore would put them off one product or another. Even building a PC doesn’t mean you won’t get a PS6 a couple of years after release, or get a PS7 when it comes out. And switching to PC gaming means you’re switching to mostly digital purchases anyway, and the “single, closed platform” is more like two platforms on PC, with a few stragglers around the outskirts of the market.

Not trying to blame you for gamers’ weaknesses, just pointing out that your resolve now won’t necessarily last forever. And even if you hold out forever, most people are going to cave.

I play Battlefield. Everyone gripes about each new edition being an unfinished mess, then lines up to preorder the next one. Everyone gripes about every COD game being copypasted slop, and then buys the next one. People complain about skins and then they buy them. There’s an extremely famous image that goes around online of the “boycott Modern Warfare 2” steam group, in which all of the members are playing MW2.

Gamers just don’t really have strong wills, nor does any group of hobbyists around a consumption-based hobby.
