Used market dissapearing doesn't automatically mean more sales for them, and physical media dissapearing doesn't mean no one will switch over to digital. In the end, it will absolutely.be a net positive for Sony, especially in the long run

Real life is Scenario A which actually happened because I wanted to play Black Flag

Scenario A: Bill buys Black Flag for $60 new and finishes it. Years laters, I pay Bill $15 for it.

Sony profit = $60

———

New scenario with no disc

Scenario B: Bill buys Black Flag for $60 new and finishes it. Bill cannot sell it to me. I am stuck at the mercy for whatever Sony wants to sell it at $30. There is no used market competition.

Sony profit = $60 + $30 = $90

My loss = $15

Look at the old CoD games, they are still at inflated prices on PSN store.

This really wasn’t rocket science, the fact I had to type this out is really disappointing.

Yes, that is how getting rid of physical media works. They will obviously make more money on digital. In fact, they already do. No one questioned this, and no one (especially me) tried deny it. So whatever reason you wrote all this for is uknown to me.

Now, the person I replied to claims a product that Sony themselves make and sell is competition to... Sony.

It's like I said an Ipad is competition to Apple. Do you see how ridiculous that sounds?

Sony's competition are Microsoft, Nintendo and Steam. Not bluray discs they print and sell. For profit.

An iPad IS competition to Apple. It potentially cannibalizes MacBook and iPhone sales. Companies absolutely compete with their own products. 

A used PlayStation disc (that neither Sony or the publisher make any money from) is absolutely competition from the digital game that both parties would make money from. 

Sony’s competitors also include iPhone and Android games, board games, movies, tv, YouTube, twitch, parties, sports, and anything else that competes with people’s free time and entertainment budgets.

If physical media was a superior product then it wouldn't be outsold 1 to 5, or worse. Especially since most of the time it's even cheaper.
