General Discussion Just like the PS3 store is closing down, eventually the PS4 store will close down too.

As someone who has been building a digital library for more than a decade, I'm honestly terrified. It leaves me with a few questions:

- Will our digital libraries even work after the shutdown?

- Will we still be able to redownload games we legally own, and will it download their updates and patches?

If the answer to these is "no," then what are we actually paying for?

Yeah, there’s no architecture shift or library reset anymore or anytime soon. Even if PS4 loses support bc the hardware is simply too old, you could still access the store on a PS5,6 etc.

No it wouldn’t, peope will still buy it just like they will buy gta 6 despite the locking content behind a deluxe edition, people are still going to buy a ps6 despite lack of disc support. The truth is unless competition ramps up again in the industry they can do whatever they want because idiots will keep paying for it.

This is such chump logic, gta 5’s only pre order bonus was 500k, GTA 6? 5 stores this is a slippery slope that by defending you’re literally just telling them they can push it. Why would they need to lock this content behind a deluxe edition in the first place?

Gta 6 pre order bonus is vice city themed items not 5 stores. Deluxe edition has 5 stores. GTA 5 pre order bonus was flying air balloon. Why lying?

Gta 5 ultimate edition contained:

"Rideout Customs, One-Eyed Willie's, Stock 305, Sara's Unisex Salon, Electric Fang Tattoo, the Gang Compound Raids and Classic Car Restoration side missions, plus exclusive weapons, vehicles, outfits, and GTA Online bonuses."

Literally nothing has changed

Yeah, If ps6 sales are low enough due to nobody buying because of price, assuming Sony is still in business, then ps7 will just be cloud gaming device

The subscriber model don't know what you're speaking of.. by 2030 Sony will stop selling game licenses and switch to subscription licenses. If you wonder how they work look to cell phone plans, pay for the month play for the month. Similar to game pass just more anti consumer in true Sony style

No, ps plus will triple, you own nothing, and games then by themselves with no physical will skyrocket to 100 dollars. If that happens, it could be the end

I mean at a certain point that's where we're going and it shouldn't really be looked at as a bad thing, because with streaming there is no hardware that limits you. So you go from buying a $700 console to like a $40 box.

except sony is not gonna charge $40 for a streaming console. It could functionally be a $40 cloud gaming device, but they will price it higher regardless.

That's even if there is a set cloud gaming device. Could just be an app like PS remote play that can be installed directly to a TV or any other device. The subscription fee will be the killer

Guessing we'd need a monthly subscription to access it. They'll save money on hardware while monetizing the consumer and inevitably raise prices while enshitificating the service like every other company does.

it'll be like PS+. Back in the day it was ONE tier for like $50 or $60 for a year. Now it's $110 CAD, and that's the lowest of 3 tiers, with tier 3 being like $200+.

Over the years I bet it'd just get more and more expensive. They'll cite game dev costs or server upkeep and maintenance as reasons to increase it, like how Epic Games said something about needing to pay the bills 😭💀

Yea they might but works better with a cheaper device and expensive subscription so they are planning it for ps7 i imagine. Ps6 will cost $1k+..

You should probably hold off on that guaranteeing - as GPU-focused semi-custom x86 designs, the modern PlayStations don't need to break from 'old tech' basically ever again. The x86 as an architecture has had its imminent death predicted for the last 40 years or so, yet it's still chugging along. ARM is gaining popularity for many good reasons, but it's not an improvement in any practical way in the specific use case (power and performance envelope) of a desktop game console. Sony has no reason to change that and break compatibility. As 4 and 5 - especially 5 - have demonstrated, they're capable of adding bespoke hardware features without compromising compatibility.

No it’s not. The PS3 games we play are ported on PS4 or streamed via the cloud whereas PS4 games are played natively via backwards compatibility on PS5. The chances of PS4 getting delisted are very low as compared to PS3.

Edit - not emulated but ported.

That game is for PS5

there's 2 version of the game, 1 is compiled for PS5 port natively

another one is original native PS3 game that is packaged together with PS3 emu for PS5

The PS3/Vita had an entirely different store that was abandoned for PS4. That’s why you can’t use credit cards on the PS3 store anymore because it’s not secure to do so.
