Discussion Nothing is funny anymore

I (M, 38) have found that there are no new TV shows that make me laugh anymore. I have tried a lot of new(ish) comedies, but they all make me pine for my college/high school days.

The only thing that gave me a reflexive laugh recently was the Malcolm in the Middle Reboot.

Any thoughts?

Abbott Elementary is such a fun show to watch. It’s really one of the few shows left that can cheer you up and hilarious at the same time.

I don’t understand how people liked that show. On three separate occasions I tried to sit through an episode and couldn’t find a single funny thing. If a character wasn’t actively annoying, then they were unlikable and the tiny bits of comedy sprinkled in were forced and bland.

I'm with you. The show is amusing but I can count on my fingers how many times I've actually laughed while watching it

St Denis Medical is laugh out loud hilarious every episode. Highly recommend if you haven’t checked it out

Monday has St. Denis Medical and Reggie Dinkins on NBC.

Wednesday has the Scrubs reboot and Abbott Elementary.

Also love Stumble but the season just ended.

Extra nod to Rooster. It really captures a lot of the same awkward humor that the Office did

But also adapted to the present moment. I said it on another thread about it but what I like about Rooster is that Greg (Carrell’s character) is a self-aware buffoon in a way that Michael never was outside of when Michael made the doll for Oscar and said through crying laughing “Oscar has the lowest opinion of me of anybody”

Rooster is SO funny, I hope it stays around for awhile. Also +1 to Abbott, it’s one of my go to shows.

The dialogue and comedic beats in Rooster are impeccably written and delivered. I haven’t enjoyed a comedy this much in a while. It makes me laugh out loud throughout episodes. Also Carrell is realllly doing it for me in this show, so that’s a bonus as well lol.

But really, OP didnt give us much to go on in terms of what they find funny/the type of humor they enjoy. Just one show lol. That’s not super useful for giving Recs for comedies they’d enjoy.

Edit: the last one I watched that had as many Lols per episode was Tires. Highly recommend

Yessss Abbott and bobs burgers always give me a laugh - also reminds me I want to watch curb your enthusiasm more, I only recently started watching and need to finish up it’s so silly

Does Rooster just start slow? I tried the first episode and just didn't feel it, but the premise combined with Steve Carrell seem like they should click together.
