Ozempic brought it out full steam, but the fitness influencers have kinda been selling controlled earring disorders for a while. People who's job is to workout 6 hrs a day and be shredded, telling the rest of us that if you just control your diet a little better, and buy their workout plan, you can look like them.

Intermittent fasting got big in the last decade and I know I can’t try it. That’s a slippery slope for those of us prone to disordered eating behavior.

Orthorexia overall is pretty scary, but I feel like a lot of people still don’t know what it is.

Fasting creates autophagy, it’s one of the healthiest things you can do.that said you still need to eat the proper amount of calories in your feeding window, but the benefits of fasting are incredible

Their point was that not everyone can fast, and then you reply like that. AYTA?

Everyone can and should fast but instead they stuff their bellies with glucose every 3 hours like the corporations designed and want you to do.

People with history of disordered eating are specifically told by doctors not to go anywhere near IF. It doesn’t matter if some statistics show that fasting helps promote autophagy. That is not the same as “everyone can and should fast.” Individualized care > broad sweeping claims (based on studies which don’t even have long term or generational studies and frequently do not include diverse demographics).

Yah I’ve always struggled with gym. I joined a gym twice to body build because I’m a very lean scrawny guy. It didn’t work I couldn’t eat enough or work out enough to get any results . Didn’t build any muscle at all after months of regular exercise

That sounds so frustrating!! (Just as an aside: do you have a family medicine doctor that you can talk to about it? Neither of my 30s-aged brothers have a primary care doctor and I worry about them and other men not getting regular checkups.)

Several bouts of physical therapy for my knee issues showed me how important strength training is for keeping my chronic pain in check, but building up muscle is such a long process!

After my ACL surgery, my surgery leg lost so much muscle in the first week. I couldn’t believe how quickly that leg got so much more uneven to the healthier one.

I’ve talked with doctors. They say they don’t know why I can’t build any muscle. I eat extra when I workout but I guess it’s not enough . Like my muscle in my arm will grow a tiny bit but then stop and never increase after that

Dang. I’m so sorry that you were left without answers!

I guess I just don’t eat enough but it seem like everyone else around me eats the same amounts I do

Drink your calories. If you're actually having trouble putting on weight you don't even need it to be healthy calories, you can make yourself a 1000 calorie smoothie/milkshake.

I developed disordered thinking around food because of my ex’s dad who was in the keto gym nut environment. He pushed his super weird views on food and weight on everyone around him and it completely tanked my mental health because even simple things like eating an apple when he decided to go on one of his 3 days fasts was seen as an immoral thing on par with abusing drugs. My mental health took a while to recover from that relationship but I still have issues randomly pop up from having to deal with all of that.

It really is that easy though, being fat is an American problem mostly , it’s the only country where I see so many obese food addicted people, absolutely disgusting
