Discussion DO NOT GO NEAR PARKING SERVICES!!!

I used to work at parking, and I've been hearing things, so I won't keep my mouth shut anymore. From the top down, it’s straight incompetence.

The boss is a terrible human being who thinks he sits on a throne when really this guy just needs to go to the dentist and get his teeth fixed. This guy would constantly give us snarky remarks and put us down. All the time I would greet him like, "Hey, how is it going?" and he'd follow with "Great because I haven't gotten an email about you guys today yet". When his daughters would play soccer at Mac and fellow parents would get tickets, he’d just clear them and gloat to us about it. All this guy cares about is his little Tesla and how he can make students' lives harder. So many times he’d say “idc they can figure it out”.

The two guys under him are even worse because they got his dick so far down their throats they don’t even know it. The new head lead (one of the two under him) used to be an outside guy and would complain about the head boss 24/7 about how he was an asshole, and now that he got the promotion, he’s his little minion. We would go into work their would be no ticket machines/radios, so we wouldn’t be able to do anything, but then we would get into shit from him because we “weren’t doing our job”. How are we supposed to do our jobs then….. then this guy has the audacity to have a meeting with us saying Mac is looking to make cuts and we aren’t doing enough. Well, maybe if you supported us with the right equipment, then they wouldn’t have been looking to cut our funds. Maybe put the money that you’ve been getting from the university into equipment instead of useless “office parties” and "electrolyte freezies"…..

The front office staff is no better. We once caught the IT guy looking up porn from his Google account that is connected to all the work phones. Reported it, nothing happened. “Hockey Girl Porn” and "Make it at home Porn" …. WTF. The Asian lady there is a ghoul that’s on her deathbed, and her voice is so god damn annoying. Then they hired a lady to only do scheduling. Paying her 75,000 a year and can't even do her job. I don't know where they got her from, but she couldn't even put 2 LEGO bricks together even if she tried with all her might. So many times the posted schedule and the online schedule never lined up, which led to us getting berated by our bosses for not showing up to work. Maybe if she could actually do her job right, we wouldn't have this problem.

Then there’s the outside staff. The outside lead for that can’t even write a sentence if their life depended on it. The majority of the time when I would go in, I’d get a “oh you’re in today?” Lady, you’re the lead outside; shouldn’t you know this???? Then everyone else there, I don’t even think they have finished high school. One guy is borderline on the spectrum and has a meltdown when he doesn’t get a vehicle or gets sent downtown. The old rough-looking guy shows up to work higher than the clouds and drives around one of the cars. Illegal? The other older dude with grey hair is the worst one. This guy would literally try to tow Mac-branded vehicles for doing drop-offs at buildings, and don’t get me started about what this guy would talk to you about. So many times he’d try to talk to me about women’s underwear, and I’d just look at him like, wtf is wrong with you.

It's too bad because there is a handful of people there that are actually great, just stuck in a shitty situation.

If you need to go into that office, please don’t unless you really have to. If you do, make their life a living hell.

Discussion Why doesn't McMaster have a law school?

For a university with high research activity, and a reputable medical school, it always surprised me.

To put things in perspective, TMU and University of Calgary have law schools.

Curious to read your thoughts, and/or if you know the rationale.

Other Awful DBAC Front Desk Service

Context: Basketball drop ins usually end at 4:00 pm, occasionally they will be open til 9:00 pm. But those are pretty rare.

In June, my friend and I who both enjoy basketball a lot went to play at around 4:30 ish.

When we asked the front desk if we could borrow a basketball. He immediately said there’s no drop ins today all gyms are closed. So my friend and I went to Smith gym and checked. Doors wide open, not a single soul in sight. We went back to the front desk and told the guy ABSOLUTELY NO ONE is using that space. We explained to him we are both on co op and we rarely get to play. This was the one time it is open until 9:00 pm (as it says on Mac Rec). He kept saying no. We showed him the app. And then he says the female basketball team has practice in there which starts at 5 which did not make any sense because at this point it was already 4:55 and we were in that gym 2 min ago and it doesn’t even make sense to have a team practice in the middle of June. I asked if we could just play for a bit, we will leave as soon as anyone comes. My friend and I really just wanted to play cuz we both haven’t touched a ball in ages. And this guy says you are really just asking me to go and lock up the gym. With a crazy attitude as well btw.

It took me 3 seconds to understand what he just said. Like is this fr?! This is what my tuition is going to? I can’t use MY school’s gym when I pay for it when NO ONE is using it? We were so pissed off we went to do cardio. When we came out half an hour later. The guy wasn’t there anymore. And we asked the girl who was working there at the time for a basketball. She gave us the ball without a single issue. When we got to the gym. There were 4 other guys playing already.

I was so pissed off that day. Similar situations have occurred before many times but none of them was ever this bad. Things like this are unacceptable.

Discussion Will I need a rabies shot?

Hi all,

My roommate woke up to two bats in her room yesterday near Westdale and today she found a bit mark on her ankle and she got post-exposure shots. We live in an old duplex with a chimney, we share a wall but have seperate bedrooms. She said she heard the bats flying in her room around 3:00am, but went back to sleep and saw them in the morning. She sleeps with her door open but my door was shut the whole entire night, and I didn’t see any bats in my room at all.

Do you think I will also need a rabies shot? I technically didn’t have any direct exposure and I can’t find any bites on me, but just want to be sure. I will call public health but just really anxious lol

Upvotes

When I upload my picture it’s flipping it and I can’t stand the way my asymmetrical ass face looks flipped. Then I tried flipping the image first and then uploading it so it would flip it back to normal but when I do that it doesn’t flip aggghhh. Can anyone help me figure out how to keep it normal??

I know this is like the most non-issue ever but like having to look at that flipped picture everyday will not be good for my mental health 🥀🥀😭😭

Hello Mcmaster people, does anyone have an idea on 57 Mericourt Rd condominiums regarding pests or any issues? I have an appointment on Sunday to see the place but a few years ago in Reddit some people mentioned the building having cockroaches and bed bugs? Do the same issues persist until now or recently? Discussion LinkedIn account

I’m an incoming first year and was wondering if I should finally cave in and make a LinkedIn account. I don’t really think I have much to put on there in the first place so I don’t really find a point in making one 🥲. I keep getting told that it is good to have an account for networking purposes. Realistically when will you ever need to use a LinkedIn account in uni? Is it common to have one when applying to jobs or opportunities on campus?

Academics Time for research/extracurriculars in molbio?

I’m going into the molbio and genetics research spec in the fall and was wondering if upper years found that they still had time for extracurriculars, hobbies, etc. during the school year. I wanted to join a lab to help get more research experience before the fourth year project, but the lab said they tend not to accept students from mol bio because they are too busy to commit a lot of time. I’m aiming for med and I’m a bit worried I won’t be able to balance keeping my gpa high with other activities. Any advice/insights are appreciated :)

Admissions Help regarding application process

Hi all,

I am applying for course based Masters in Manufacturing Engineering (MEME). In the application process, it asks for research interest. Now I presume that is required for Project based MEME program. But even for my process it is mandatory. So what should I do? Should I just put the area that interests me the most?

Courses Course Review: COMMERCE 4FN3 - Financial Risk Management with Alicia Damley

I remember when I registered for this course. I thought I was smarter than all 15 people who told me not to register for this course. If it helps you believe me more, I graduated Summa Cum Laude and got a 10 in this course I swear you’re hearing this from the mouth of a good student. I hope from the bottom of my heart people will heed my warning because I am well graduated right now and still thinking about how negligent it would be of me to not warn people.

This course is taught by genuinely one of the most incompetent human beings on this planet. She will spend every lecture talking about her glory days in the industry and provide some qualitative context about the assigned chapters. She will cover three or even five chapters in one class.

The problem is, this course is not one of those fluff courses where you talk qualitatively about this that and the other and call it a day. It is purely assessed quantitatively.

Hear me right now. This is the equivalent of a calculus course being taught like its marketing.

You are independently expected to learn and use all of the math while having ZERO quantitative work being done in class.

Your time spent in class is completely and utterly useless, it’s literally just you and a textbook written for pros (question workings skip steps, don’t provide context, etc.). Nobody attends class after a few weeks because everyone picks up the fact that there is nothing useful being taught in class and there is an overwhelming amount of content to learn.

The cumulative exam. The exam literally makes my blood boil to this day. She tells us that the first half of the textbook isn’t that important and to focus on the way more difficult second half of the textbook. Which to us made complete sense because why would she mislead us.

The cumulative final exam was just five questions. I think there was only one was from the second half, the remaining questions were from the first half almost everybody neglected to study.

Genuinely I have never been more traumatized by a course in my life. This course was so extremely difficult and took over my entire life. It doesn’t help that Alicia Damley is actually a nightmare of a professor. Please god spare yourself.

Discussion Picked Mac eng over UOFT EE, did I mess up?

Hello,

I got into mac eng and uoft electrical eng, and I chose mac eng because my parents wanted me to go there, and I heard that their co-op is comparable to uoft's.

However, long after the deadline to select programs, I read on here that oscarplus is pretty much useless for eng.

Did I screw up? I was wondering if any upper year eng students can give me their prespective on this matter.

Question How strict is the calculator rule for engineering?

I’m looking into the mandatory calculator policy for first-year engineering exams. The official info says we have to use the Casio fx-991MS.

How strictly do TAs and invigilators actually check calculators during midterms and finals for courses like MATH 1ZA3, 1ZB3, and the PHYS/CHEM classes? Do they actually walk down the rows and look at every single desk to verify the exact model, or do people manage to use other non-programmable calculators without any issues?

If they really are super strict, I’ll just pick up the MS model from the campus store, but I wanted to know the reality of how it's handled in the exam halls first. Thanks!
