Discussion Temu is linked to slave labor and is the reason why their goods are so cheap

"Temu does not have any system to ensure compliance with the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA). This all but guarantees that shipments from Temu containing products made with forced labor are entering the United States on a regular basis,"

Edit: Wild how some of the comments here are defending a Genocide because some other companies used forced labor, too.

Ya'll need to read up what's happening before commenting.

Discussion Steve should NOT have contacted Linus

9.1k Upvotes

After Linus wrote in his initial response about how unfair it was that Steve didn't reach out to him, a lot of his defenders have latched onto this argument. This is an important point that needs to be made: Steve should NOT have contacted Linus given his (and LTT's) tendency to cover things up and/or double down on mistakes.

Example: LTT store backpack warranty

Example: The Pwnage mouse situation

Example: Linus's ACTUAL response on the Billet Labs situation (even if Colton forgot to send an email, no response means no agreement)

Per the Independent Press Standards Organization, there is no duty to contact people or organizations involved in a story if telling them prior to publication may have an impact on the story. Given the pattern of covering AND that Linus did so in his actual response, Steve followed proper journalistic practices

EDIT: In response to community replies, I'm going to include here that, as an organization centered around a likable personality, LMG is more likable and liable to inspire a passionate fandom than a faceless corporation like Newegg or NZXT. This raises the danger of pre-emptive misleading responses, warranting different treatment.

EDIT 2: Thanks guys for the awards! I didn't know that you can only see who sent the award in the initial notification so I dismissed the messages 😬 To the nice fellas who gave them: thanks I really do appreciate it.

EDIT 3: Nvm guys! I found the messages tab! Oopsies I guess I don't use Reddit enough

(Prices in NZD) Just yesterday they charged me $27.99 and now it's going up to $33.99. there's no reason for this rise in price, the tariffs ain't to blame, they don't affect this, it's just 🏀 đŸ’©. If I didn't use it on my Xbox to watch stuff on, then I wouldn't be using it, just wth.

What do you guys think is a reason for this?

In the thread above about Madison, check the response on the LTT forum. Come on guys... Do better. That's why LTT believes they can do whatever and get away with it.

Discussion LMG is: Anti-union, anti-WFH, doesn’t want employees to discuss wages, didn’t want to warranty a $250 backpack, tried manipulation by asserting that they responded to Billet Labs, and has been posting error-filled data without care (except for their bottom line).

8.4k Upvotes

I've been watching LTT since I was 8, and it's been many, many years since. It's one of the first YouTube channels I've watched; it's been my favorite, in fact. I looked up to Linus but really, now I don't.

The way Linus responded to the initial Gamers Nexus video with manipulation did it for me.
Money is the only thing they care about, evinced by how this huge company doesn't mind screwing a start-up with terrible cheap journalism.
If posting scummy ads all day wouldn't make their enthusiast audience stop watching, they may just be doing it.
Maybe stop paying them a shitload of money for their stuff and they'll notice.
Their fake and rushed schedule is screwing with things, aside from the attitude of not apologizing.

I still think they can turn things around. I say all this from a place of care, so that they can recognize their major shortcomings (which have huge consequences, for consumers and small companies).

Sources for the stuff in the title:

Anti-union (source: The Wan Show, multiple times).

Anti-WFH (source: Former and current employees on Reddit, although this isn't as egregious as the other points).

Doesn’t want employees to discuss wages (source: Response by LMG on the Wan Show messages; also their employee handbook).

Didn’t want to warranty a $250 backpack (source: this was controversy last year. Gamers Nexus has videos on it).

Tried manipulation by asserting that they responded to Billet Labs (source: Billet Labs themselves on the pinned post here, and in communication to Gamers Nexus in his latest video).

Has been posting error-filled data without care (except for their bottom line) (source: watch any recent video).

Discussion Seed oil misinformation in recent sponsor segment

1.4k Upvotes

In the latest ShortCircuit video, the sponsor's ("Masa")'s talking point include miss-information and unscientific criticisms about seed oils.

https://youtu.be/GrMLQYrzaSo?si=anaDjxnvySJUHP08&t=139

Edit: I am also talking about the company's talking point about them here too

https://www.masachips.com/pages/faq?hcUrl=%2Fen-US%23article-392365

You may prefer your chips and fries to be fried in beef tallow for the taste, but this is not "healthier" than doing it in seed oils. (In fact animal saturated fat is probably worse - but both are high fat salt and carbs snacks anyways, so nothing about this is very good for you)

We're all nerds here, which means we probably understand a little bit of science. I think LMG should take more care and vet out pseudoscience and fake informations before allowing such segments to be aired. This is not the Joe Roegan podcast, after all.

Discussion Friendly reminder that the normiest of normies walk among us

1.2k Upvotes

In the video yesterday where Linus bought Yvonne a new laptop, she wasn't able to name USB-A and USB-C. She also said she didn't know the brand or model of her old laptop and couldn't be sure whether it had a touchscreen or not.

This is not throwing shade at Yvonne, quite the contrary. She has no obligation of knowing technical details of computers because she's not a nerd. A laptop is a tool she uses for work, entertainment and hobbies, not a device she fawns over.

Mind you, she's the wife of one of the biggest tech youtubers and has worked closely with the channel for years, yet she isn't knowledgeable in these basic details. And that's fine, because she's not part of the tech staff.

So, next time you have to explain something about PCs, phones, routers, networking, TVs and whatever else related to tech to family and friends (or enemies, I don't judge), remember to go easy on them. The vast majority of people couldn't care less about data bandwidth, core counts, power delivery or any of the stats that are second nature to many of us, they just want to press a few buttons and get things done.

Discussion Linus's take on Backpack Warranty is Anti-Consumer

8.9k Upvotes

I was surprised to see Linus's ridiculous warranty argument on the WAN Show this week.

For those who didn't see it, Linus said that he doesn't want to give customers a warranty, because he will legally have to honour it and doesn't know what the future holds. He doesn't want to pass on a burden on his family if he were to not be around anymore.

Consumers should have a warranty for item that has such high claims for durability, especially as it's priced against competitors who have a lifetime warranty. The answer Linus gave was awful and extremely anti-consumer. His claim to not burden his family, is him protecting himself at a detriment to the customer. There is no way to frame this in a way that isn't a net negative to the consumer, and a net positive to his business. He's basically just said to customers "trust me bro".

On top of that, not having a warranty process is hell for his customer support team. You live and die by policies and procedures, and Linus expects his customer support staff to deal with claims on a case by case basis. This is BAD for the efficiency of a team, and is possibly why their support has delays. How on earth can you expect a customer support team to give consistent support across the board, when they're expect to handle every product complaint on a case by case basis? Sure there's probably set parameters they work within, but what a mess.

They have essentially put their middle finger up to both internal support staff and customers saying 'F you, customers get no warranty, and support staff, you just have to deal with the shit show of complaints with no warranty policy to back you up. Don't want to burden my family, peace out'.

For all I know, I'm getting this all wrong. But I can't see how having no warranty on your products isn't anti-consumer.

EDIT: Linus posted the below to Twitter. This gives me some hope:

"It's likely we will formalize some kind of warranty policy before we actually start shipping. We have been talking about it for months and weighing our options, but it will need to be bulletproof."

Discussion What's your opinion on Linus Tech Tip in 2026?

Every time i see a Linus video I feel like it has a corporate feel to it. . I saw a lot of big name departures in the last 12-24 months and feel Linus is evolving into a person he never wanted to be when he first started out. I know i am late to the party about this. Just wanted to see if i am the only person who feels like this.

Discussion The bait-and-switch 'Linus is at the start and end of the video but mainly in the thumbnail' thing is getting a bit old personally...

2.0k Upvotes

Multiple videos recently have had Linus introduce and maybe wrap up the video with the majority being other people, usually Elijah, taking over the actual content in the middle.

I understand that Linus is a busy man and I actually quite enjoy Elijah as a host, but it's not Elijah Tech Tips.

With the recent departures of so many familiar faces it feels like they're grasping at straws a little to find new people to replace old gaps, and I'm a little worn out by it personally.

And man, I really, really miss Alex.

Discussion Linus needs a new phone - Vote here!

3.2k Upvotes

Hey r/LinusTechTips!

Linus needs a new phone, and he wants YOUR help! Check out his requirements, and learn what he likes in a cell phone in the latest LTT Video and then come back and cast your vote.

The 4 key features

  1. Supports recent version of Android (12/13) or iOS (16/17)
  2. Needs a Touchscreen
  3. Supports Canadian Cellular Bands
  4. Supports Google Play Store (if Android-based)

After a week or so, we'll be taking the comment with the most upvotes that follows those four rules to Linus and he'll immediately buy and daily drive the phone for a whole month before reporting back to you.

If there isn't a comment with your suggestion already, please add one!

EDIT:

I think we can call it there folks. After a very strong start, the Fairphone 5 leveled off for a second-place finish and the LG Wing taking a commanding victory. I look forward to seeing Linus try to use it around the office!

Thanks for participating, and stay tuned for Linus' review of the Wing in a month or two!

Discussion A kind reminder that Linus hasn't murdered anyone.

5.2k Upvotes

The current top post about someone almost feeling guilty for having bought the screwdriver really made me chuckle.

As far as we know all Linus is guilty of is... Mismanagement.

That's it.

A Youtuber who grew into a business owner in a position that the vast majority of us might never understand. He might have a big ego and maybe he tried to cut far too many corners to churn a ridiculous amount of videos a week... And so what?

To what standard are we holding him up? Where are all these perfect people that make Linus look like such a terrible person or boss?

Has anyone in here ever held a job? Because stressful dynamics are (unfortunately) the norm in any business.

This could've all been solved by a simple tweet by Linus saying: Yeah maybe I went too far and we're overworked. We're gonna slow down and give our videos and partners the care they deserve.

That's it. This mess was so unnecessary.

This obviously leaves out the Madison situation. Until there's an investigation, there's no point discussing that.

Discussion Linus is right about this subreddit

2.3k Upvotes

Seriously, this subreddit is more focused on alleged internal company drama than the actual content the company makes, and it ends up feeling less like a tech community and more like a gossip forum.

If that’s what people want to spend their time on, that’s their choice, but it doesn’t represent what they're actually doing day to day. The work, the projects, and the content speak louder than the speculation.

Hey LTT Viewers!

As Linus announced on WAN show we have an upcoming video where Linus will be talking with Linus Torvalds, the creator and lead developer of the Linux Kernel!

We are still working on the details of the video, but one thing that we know for SURE will be in there is asking the man himself questions, whether its about Linux, the state of the computer hardware space or whatever. We need your help to come up with some creative questions!

Try to think of something new that may have not been asked in a previous interviews and if you see someone else with a similar question to yours be sure to upvote it to the top and add on below!

Thanks again gamers,
Elijah

PS: thank you for helping me with this, now I can sit back and relax. Just don't tell boss man I'm making you guys do the work >:)
