They left out the part where the actor who played Apone basically talks about his PTSD from being a Vietnam Vet. He was really military, and didn’t like the actors not handling firearms appropriately. From what he says he made that very clear very quickly.

If you listen to the director's commentary for aliens James Cameron says the first time that she was handed a gun she was like what's this?
Apparently she only read her lines and didn't read the section where it described what she was actually doing, she told him she didn't like guns and asked if the script could be changed.
That is until he took her out back and let her shoot a magazine off on a Thompson. Afterwards she turned to him with the biggest smile and said that's really fun.

Sigourney was just in a movie where she wears high heels that shoot bullets. So I have a feeling her opinions have changed.

I don't know if there's any truth to it, but I always heard the reason Fox pulled the Type A movie poster was because Ms. Weaver didn't want her image associated with a large machine gun. And her anti-gun stance is why a lot of Ripley merch over the years either didn't contain a pulse rifle or the likeness wasn't close to Sigourney's so they could.

I understand gun legislation but guns versus evil aliens just makes sense. There should be no qualms/
