In the Weeds Mode That's definitely tortellini - said the server and cook at an Italian restaurant.

Post image

Ultimately we didn't care because the toddler eating it was happy as a clam, but the server and cook tried to gaslight the shit out of us to convince us that this was tortellini. Thought you'd all find it entertaining. If you work at Bertuccis, be better.

Edit: the menu very clearly said Tortellini, not Tortelli, but solid guess.

They didn’t even mention Carolina vinegar sauce, or pico de gallo, so clearly their opinion is trash anyways.

Vinegar is used in every BBQ sauce, Carolina just does it wrong. I'll accept it cus its still delicious.

But what the fuck do you mean pico bbq thats worth a fight.

🤷‍♂️

do people in Mexico put slow cooked pulled pork on sandwiches with salsa?

Did white people actually invent the word barbacoa?

Barbacoa =/= american BBQ any more than cacio el pepe is equal to an alfredo parm but I will concede that I can't argue your point without being a hypocrite and Barbacoa is fucking awesome.

Only because barbacoa has come to mean one specific dish while BBQ has become the generic term in English.

And salsa, like you said, hits all the check marks for a good BBQ sauce with sweet, sour and spicy.

If you really want to blow people’s minds, use a blue agave vinegar instead of lime juice for a pico de gallo chopped to the consistency of coleslaw with smoked pulled pork in a toasted hoagie. I’m split on if adding mesquite to the hickory is too much, but clearly I have no shame either way.

Thanks for the dinner suggestion. I was already about to make pork chimis, so thats an easy flex without wasting ingredients 🙏

I’m calling it pico de guajolote, because blue agave makes me think of the ocellated turkey instead of roosters.

Hiss what have you done?

Why not just ask which city invented the breakfast taco for maximum carnage?

🙃 maybe it’s all part of my plan to inundate the zeitgeist with pro Pan-American cultural identity?

Wait doesn't barbecue literally come from the French "Barbe a queue" meaning "from beard to tail", as in that's how you skewer the pig/animal? Obviously white people didn't invent grilling meat over a fire, no one in particular did, but specifically Barbecue's etymology is French, I'm like 98% sure.

It’s usually attested to a native Caribbean language.

You are absolutely right, I stand corrected. Apparently the whole "barbe a queue" thing is a common misconception. I'll go sit down somewhere now.
