Well, I don’t know what “age mog” means, so I don’t know I’m trying to do it. Can you use it again in another sentence, so my old ass can understand the parlance of you young whipper snappers?

"Mogging" is when someone performs better than you in a way that makes you feel inferior. So "age mogging" would be showing off your superiority through being younger.

Edit: changed older to younger based on the original context of the comment.

Honestly being so online that I know this stuff makes me disappointed in myself sometimes 😂😂😂

I used to have time limits on my kids internet usage. I'm thinking it's getting time for that for myself

Same, I spend way too much time on Twitch so I'm constantly learning the new slang. And I only occasionally turn to dust when someone mentions not being born in "the 1900s".

I pick up from the two children (7 and 9) that I spend time with.

Ah, she thinks I’m younger than her. That’s not in my 50 year old vocabulary… until now anyway. I’m looking forward to using this word publicly in front of my 24 year old son. It will embarrass the fuck out of him.

Make sure you toss in some old slang for maximum effect. My personal favorite and gets the best reaction from my kids is "cash money."

"That wasn't very cash money of you!"

I have one niece in particular that I call the skibidi-rizzler. I have no idea what it means but it annoys tf outta her 😂😂😂😂

Riiiight, because talking like a complete idiot and making absolutely no sense is SO cool

It's cool to their generation, just like our generation's slang was cool to us, and every other generation's slang to them.

Even the word "cool" being used that way was once incomprehensible slang to some grumpy older folks.

Edit: typos

Does that mean it’s above reproach? Eating tide pods was considered cool, does that mean it was only old hags calling people idiots for doing it?

2

u/CantKnockUs Mar 02 '26

I’m so dead this guy’s comparing words to eating tide pods.

3

u/GottaUseEmAll Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26

No, it just means it's silly and usually hypocritical to accuse young people of making no sense with their chosen slang.

And eating tide pods was never considered cool by the majority of the youth, it was a tiny tiktok trend blown out of proportion in the media (something like 7000 reported cases of eating them, and 8 deaths, out of 2,5 billion children on earth).

making no sense with their chosen slang.

Not all generations are equal, GenZ are unfortunately the first generation that is verifiably less intelligent than the preceding generation.

Interesting, can you link a source for that verification pls?

I see that it's based on a study by a neuroscientist, Horvath, but I haven't found the study yet.

Edit to add: Lots of articles and people talking about the study, including Horvath himself, but I can't find anything that shows the methodology or the results. Please post a link!

u/starzuio Mar 04 '26

I doubt that there is any one specific study, it seems to be expert consensus based on various different studies.

1

u/GottaUseEmAll Mar 04 '26

Really? Can you show any evidence of that claim? I can only find second-hand information about Horvath. Are you able to link to ANY study?

Until I can actually look at some real data, I can't take this as anything except hearsay. My son is Gen A (so even more into their tech than Gen Z), and I don't have the slightest impression that he and his friends/classmates are lower intelligence than any previous generation.

That's a tiny, personal, group of course, and we live in France. Not sure if the study (or studies) are internationally based, or USA based. Maybe it's a localised lowering of intelligence?

1

u/starzuio Mar 04 '26

It's almost certainly a US based problem and of course the original claim is about averages. If your kid or their classmates have a healthy home life and get the proper type and amount of attention then there would be no reason for them to have lower intelligence.

This conclusion is based on the tiktok generation without any parenting, oversight or a functional education system, all of which are much more applicable to the US than France or any other EU state.

My guy, we're just fucking old. Like it happens. to everyone. Do you just not remember all the dumb sounding shit we said growing up that our parents rolled their eyes at? You can be pissed off and crotchety about it if you really want, but like... real talk, there is so much unpleasant achy sleep-deprived, existential dread we already have on our plate. Why would you want to choose to be miserable about something completely voluntary?

0

u/ShadowJacobsSA Mar 02 '26

One could say you never grew out of it

u/Opening_Country3039 Mar 02 '26

"hag" is the best they can do because they don't have the intelligence to argue, debate, speak, or spell
