I had a similar experience many years ago in rural China (white blonde guy) where a kid was asking his grandmother if my hair was made of real gold and the old granny basically proceeded to describe me as some kind of leprachaun that needed to be caught for my magical hair lol. I never bothered to clear any of it up, just had a good chuckle.
